Thanks for sharing the link Millemissen.
I think B&O have thought out the Moment concept very well. There is not something similar on the market. All streaming service focus on the same: playlists (social or not), music search, personalised radio, and music discovery features based on likes. The combination of learning people listening habits to enable one touch play ("the Nest of music" as a magazine called it) and a match-music-to your-mood with he ability to discover music (middle and outer ring) is truly unique in my opinion.
As good as the concept is, the implementation is at least as important. Given all the remarks on this forum about B&O's inability to deliver decent software, it would be a bit of surprise if Pattern Play and Mood Wheel would work properly; getting this to work well seems more difficult to me than to implement something as simple as unified search.
@Beroli: thanks for your comments. You have indicated Pattern Play works well; that is hopeful and great to hear..... Would love to hear the details: is it close to 100% right in terms of what you would like to hear, i.e. right music genre and correct source (radio, own collection or Deezer) for time of the day / moment of the week / month? What about the Mood Wheel? How does "Mood" translate into music? Is it as simple as blue = sad = blues or more sophisticated?

'Backward to go forward' - that is the way I turn the pages in a book etc.
Feels right to me - maybe not to a chinese, though 😉
Note: you are 'swiping', not 'tapping'.

Why should rhey have choosen to navigate 'skip forward'/'skip backward' on the wooden side of the Jukebox in the opposite way of navigating to the next/previous track/s on the display side?
There is no button to push - you are swiping.
----
Took me two days to get used to 'natural scrolling' on my Mac then.
There is no button there too (using the trackpad/magic mouse) - it is swiping, or using gestures, as Apple says.
I would not waste a second to consider returning to the old odd way of navigating on websites.
Not every old habit is a 'god given thing'.
Agree with Chris on this one - but I found the H8´s to be even less intuitive when skipping a track. I guess they have a hard headed manager somewhere that believes this is the correct way (just like the opposite rotation of the MMI wheel on Audi´s or the up/down shifts on the previous (pre-918 style) multi function steering wheel on Porsche´s).
But I quickly adopted this way of operating them...

When technology changes, we change the way of interacting with it.
A lot of interacting was (and still is) done by pushing buttons - (I love my Beo4's).
Swiping/using gestures is different - more like the gestures we use in nature - thus my comparison with navigating in a book.
Aussie Michael:MM its farcical and counter intuitive to every other electronic swiping.

how do you use the moment with your own music Library
1: mac and twonky server
2: NAS with twonky server
3: mac or NAS with other server software than twonky
which version of twonky do you use?
me i use twonky on my iMac: my iTunes playlist are inverted in the moment, and the album art cropped and blured; Am I the only one?
I think I will use the moment only with deezer and tunein radio. and for my iTunes Library an airport express on the line in. What do you think?

Hiort: It's the Moment that crop and blur the album art. That has nothing to do with Twonky. A design choice B&O made.

'Crop and blur the album art' - I can hardly believe, that that should be 'a design choice B&O made'.
Surprisingly though, this is the reply I received from Beocare when I complained about blurred and badly cropped cover art:
Dear Paul,
I have forwarded your e-mail to the technical responsible department, who in return has informed me that the described cropping issue is not going to be resolved for the moment.
Your request is of course registered in our database and should the above decision change, I shall immediately inform you by direct mail.
I am sorry we cannot help you any further for now.
Kind regards,

That - however - does not mean, that it is 'a design choice B&O made'.
it is a 'technical problem' - they'd better get it solved quick!!!

elephant:If the jukebox smarts are in the tablet's App then that would start to make sense
The tablet handles the UI only. No processing and no external communication (maybe except for SW updates) is done there.
Should be quite easy for somebody to program an iOS app that "emulates" the B&O tablet UI...
In that case you would have to connect the iPad to the wifi of the SoundHeart - and you should run the app in 'kiosk mode', since no other functions would be possible.
Happy DIY-ing.
Millemissen: In that case you would have to connect the iPad to the wifi of the SoundHeart - and you should run the app in 'kiosk mode', since no other functions would be possible. Happy DIY-ing. MM
There is no dedicated "SoundHeart wifi". The tablet and the base station are using both your normal home wifi to communicate via the BeoRemote protocol. Isn't that complicated...
True - wifi is wifi.
But the Jukebox only communicates with the SoundHeart (via the network), not with your network or with the internet.
The SoundHeart is the heart of the BS Moment - the Jukebox is the UI and would be nothing without the SH.
Millemissen:But the Jukebox only communicates with the SoundHeart (via the network), not with your network or with the internet.
Communication between SoundHeart and JukeBox is done using your existing wifi network. The SoundHeart neither is an AP (except for the first time setup) nor is there any other magic stuff that acts as a bridge between those two devices. This a potential problem if the customers wifi is bad.
So in fact the Jukebox IS using your local network to talk the the Soundheart and sometimes the internet connection for fetching SW updates, too.It is using the exactly the same interface that is also used by the BeoMusic app <-> SoundHeart combo...
So - when will we see your Jukebox iPad app?
Millemissen:So - when will we see your Jukebox iPad app?
I don't see any advantage for me in doing this.I haven't bought the moment since I don't like the design and the overall quality.Programming an app for the existing users and selling it on the appstore is not an option, too. Too much development effort for only a few downloads a month...

kallasr:Why don't people just attach a Sonos device to their existing Beomasters or Beosounds/Beocenters or even Beovisions? Very mature system. Deezer, Spotify etc... And sound distribution via Masterlink.
Maybe because ML is no more...
....and because people prefer to start the playback with one touch, without using multiple remotes.
@Ralf
please notice, what I did write:
'Start the playback with one touch, without using multiple remotes.'
this means that - when you have found what you want to listen to (a netradiostation, an album, playlist or a track...) - you start the playback from within the B&O application (UI on the Jukebox or in the Remote app).
This starts up the B&O device, the speakers, that you want to use. (After the coming update you (from the BS Moment) even will be able to pick where on the NL-network/on which device you want to listen to it.)
I sure know, what you mean with suggesting just to connect a Sonos.......
For years now I have been using a Squeezebox in exactly the same way (controlled from the iPeng app on an iPad).
On the iPad I choose, what I want to listen to AND then I pick up my Beo4 for activating the input (to which the Squeezebox is connected) and for the volumen controlling.
Exactly these multiple tasks is, what I want to avoid. That is, what I call activating the B&O setup from within the app, where I choose, what to hear.
(Alternatively from the 'wheel' on the Jukebox or on the Essence 'remote knob').
if this is worth nothing to you - just don't worry about it!
I expect B&O to bring one overall solution, not to bring a solution, that must rely on a third party device in order to work.
B&O is about the easyness of integration.

elephant:If it only is a UI why does it appear to have a long loading time during installation ?One user reported that the base loads the meta data quickly but the tablet takes a very long time. Hence my suggestion that the tablet needs a faster processor. Of course it could just be terrible MVC UI programming. My store experience is that the UI is laggy and unstable. BeoNut since '75
Hello, dear friends of the BeoSound Moment :-) ;-) :-/
I the past I struggled and fighted with my BeoSound Moment. I talked with you received/exchanged priceless informations. Thanks to Hiort, Chris, Carolpa and MM too. I talked with my Dealer over a lunch and informed him about the troubles if had to face with the BS Moment. He tried to get answers from B&O.
Here is the summary of the questions and some answers I got from B&O. I added in the second part further informations about the flaws and solutions I found out by myself. Maybe some of you will find them useful. Have mercy - English is not my native language.
My current BS Moment-Setup is now up and running. I am still not fully satisfied, because of the work-arounds - but if you try some of my solutions you will find a way to have fun with the BS Moment. This is not a post with the intend to blame B&O. It is my way to give a hand or help to improve this unique product. I Still like the BS Moment and the potential within.
Have fun reading
Cheers Beroli
PS: I will post soon a guide to install a Twonky-Server on a Raspberry Pi 2, as promissed. It´s working flawless now ;-)
BS Moment issues and some solutions
Questions or Suggestions for improvements
1. How many Tracks are allowed / How many Tracks can the Jukebox process for sure?
B&O wrote “There is no specific limit. We have been testing the product with a library of 40.000 tracks on a DLNA NAS“
2. How is the Moment processing covers? - and which way you would recommend?
a) embedded in the track/file
b) or by folder (e.g. cover.jpg, name of the album.jpg
B&O wrote “Both should work, there is no specific recommendation“
3. Why is the processing time of the music collection different between
a) the Soundheart - done in Minutes
b) the Jukebox (Tablet) - takes hours 1h/1000 Tracks roughly estimated
B&O wrote “ The process is long (at is has a chain of actions: browse folders, identify track, do analysis of their mood classification, etc). It takes about 20 seconds per DLNA track. There are no different speeds among the SoundHeart and the Jukebox. The whole process works as a combined system between the two… We are looking into providing more/better feedback to the user regarding the harvesting progress.“
But I can see my whole content (including Covers) just within minutes on the BeoMusic App, while the Jukebox still need days.
4. Why are some Artist Covers not shown (even famous artists like Adele)?
The Artist Tile of Adele came up on the same Day, I had sent the Questions. Solved
B&O wrote “There could be different reasons why album covers might not visible… For example, if the content is coming from a DLNA-Server, maybe the metadata is not fully correct. We would recommend that the customer submits a log report (from the settings menu of the BeoSound Moment) and the store makes a proper report for investigating the specific issue (along with details, serial number of the product, etc.)“
5. Will it be possible to do a overall-search like in Deezer/tuneIn in NAS/DLNA too? When? Looking forward to a text-based-over-all search on NAS/DLNA.
B&O wrote “implemented for TuneIn and Deezer (but not yet for DLNA/NAS). Please make sure you have the latest version on your BeoSound Moment…“
6. Why does the BS Moment shows 2 different Artist Covers instead of 1, if I add a new Album of a Artist in Deezer?
For example: I have the Albums (Songs in a minor, The diary of Alicia Keys, Unplugged) from Alicia Keys in my own music- collection on TWONKY and when I add the new Album of Alicia Keys in Deezer - the Artist cover from Alicia Keys is shown twice (but different photos from the artists)
B&O wrote “Yes, this is a known issue at this time. If you have the same artist on Deezer and on DLNA, you will see the artist tile twice… We are looking the best way to address this issue, but we currently not have a specific date on when it would be improved…“
7. Will there be a possibility, to change the Mood-Wheel-View to the Now-Playing-View permanently?
B&O wrote “No, it is not in our plans…“
8. Will there be a possibility, to switch off the Mood-Wheel/PatternPlay to skip the hour-taking processing in the start? Just show the tracks instantly like on the Soundheart / BeoMusicApp?
B&O wrote “We are currently working on different enhancements to make the product start faster. You will see new SW updates coming in the next months, with improvements on speed.“
9. Will there be a possibility to see the Volume-Control on Display? I have the latest updates, but no volume indicator is shown in my setup (BS-Moment, NL/ML-Converter, BV 8-40 as Master connected to 4 speakers and 1 subwoofer)
B&O wrote “This has been already implemented. Please make sure you have the latest version on your BeoSound Moment…“
Some setups like mine BV8-40 as Master with NL/ML-Converter will not see the volume adjustment, even if the have the latest update. It seems, that some ways of displaying informations are restricted if you connect your BeoSound Moment to old B&O-Hardware, like the BV 8
10. Will there be a button on the Display or a gesture to call up the “SEARCH“ instead of the terrible back-swipe-procedure to get to the (in my opinion: terrible) One-Capital-Search in Front of Capital A. I am still looking forward to receive a better search (DLNA/NAS) with an update
B&O wrote “Yes, already now tapping again on “Artist“ or “Radio“ or “Discover“ brings us the search functionality. So you don´t need the swipe procedure. (you can use either). The One-Capital search is still the only way to search in the “Artist“ tab. When searching Deezer/TuneIn via „“Discover“ and “Radio“ you get a full keyword search functionality“
11. Are there ethernet ports on the BS Moment and NL/ML Converter only 10/100 MBit-Ports instead of Gigabit-Ports?
B&O wrote “The ports on the BeoSound Moment are indeed 10/100 MBit. As the data transfer is only audio related, those speeds are already more than enough. there would be no extra perceived performance/speed improvement, having Gigabit ports“
In my own experience, having a fast gigabit Network shortens the „first setup processing“ remarkably. Processing 28.000 tracks in a 10/100 MBit.-Network needed about 35 Hours. In a fast Gigabit-network, the processing was done in 24 hours. Some times exchanging a old switch with a new Gigabit-Switch will bring efforts (regarding connection stability, a faster crisp reaction on the Jukebox…)
12. Are there any plans to implement a backup function for the DB, to support the customer, that he can use the Moment much faster, than now. After every factory reset (recently quite often), the whole DB-Processing needs days (1h/1000 Tracks). Is there already a possibility to backup the DB?
Flaws / Bugs / temporary Solutions
1. After the processing of the music collection (checkmark is shown in the setup-menu), titles /
tracks are only shown on the BeoMusic App but not on the Jukebox.
temporary Solution: PIN-Reset on Soundheart/Jukebox
2. Bluetooth configuration under NL/ML is gone since the latest update.
temporary Solution: None
3. BS Moment can´t process the Files from different Servers than Twonky (Twonky is not available for all recent Synology-NAS- only as a app for the older discontinued devices)
temporary Solution: use a Twonky Server instead
4. When the whole progressing is over, the BS Moment is mixing up all the Covers.
For example.
Every music file includes a 500x500 Album-Cover. Every Streaming Device excluding the Moment is showing them correctly/instantly.I waited until the moment had finished the progressing of my Music-Files on the (Synology) NAS (checked sign is shown). But after the Import most of my Albums don´t show any cover. The Moment inserts them in the first time I enter the Artist. Here comes the issue. The first Cover is always right. But when I am continue browsing on the Jukebox and if I open any artist/album, the Moment will attach the Cover from the first showed/played Album instead of importing the Cover from the shown file. If you are listening to Eric Clapton/Pilgrim and you start to scroll to any other Album (e.g.) Eric Clapton/Reptile, the BS Moment will attach the Clapton-Pilgrim-Cover to the Clapton/Reptile-Cover or to any other Artist you decide to have a look on. Even if you stop the song and you scroll down to e.g. Shakira. The Shakira-Album will show the Pilgrim-Cover as well. Even after a restart, the wrong attached covers are still there and there are no possibilities to refresh the cover only and force the BS Moment to import the real cover of the file.
temporary Solution: switch off “Cover View“ (in the settings menu of the BeoSound Moment) or use a Twonky Server instead
7. BeoVision Screen behind NL/ML converter don´t switch off, after changing the source from watching TV to Music/CD. The Screen shows “CD“ and stays on. Waste of Power and not good for the screen as well.
Solution: latest update solved this. Please check the software version of your NL/ML converter - update, if necessary.
temporary Solution: switch of the whole system. Start listening music, by pressing “Music“ on the remote or on the pattern-play button
8. BeoMusic App can´t handle titles in Playlists beginning with special characters like round bracket (, question marks ?, quote marks “
9. BeoMusic App don´t show playlists-titles.
If you tap on a playlist, the App is showing in every playlist just exactly the same 20 tracks (beginning with special characters.) instead of the real titles of the playlist. You can not event start a NAS-DLNA-Server-Playlist on the BeoMusic App. On the BS Moment it is possible to start/shuffle the same Twonky-Playlists . They work, but they are in a wrong order.
10. If a Album from a Album-Artist is produced together with different Co-Artists, the moment shows the artist cover and a huge amount of artist covers, like (Album-Artist + Co-Artist). My Moment shows 16 times Elton, John, 20 times Eric Clapton and 14 Celine Dions,… Pink Floyd, Joss Stone… because the Artist field in the track contains (as it should be) the co-Artist. (e.g. „Elton John & Don Henley“. Therefore there is another Artist cover named „Elton John & Don Henley“) and so on…
temporary Solution: delete every Co-Artist in the Artist-Field in the File-tag (lose information)
Solution should be: change priority from the Artist-field to Album-Artist in the Artist-View
11. If you force the refreshing of your Collection the Display shows “Network overload“ (in the settings menu of the BeoSound Moment) since the latest Software-Update on the BS-Moment.
temporary Solution: try again, again, again. Sometimes it will work
12. Beoplay A8 in the same room (kitchen) is powering up every time, when I use the BS Moment
13. Playlist from itunes are shown like this: “Blues (iTunes)“ instead of “Blues“
temporary Solution: see Tip 1. below (create your own playlist (see previous posts), put in in the associated music-folder and delete the same-named Playlist in iTunes)
14. When the Twonky-Server is refreshing - the songs, tracks disappear from the Moment
temporary Solution: switch of refreshing in the Twonky-Server-Settings
15. When changing/adding tracks, playlists…. you have to create a complete new Database (BS Moment is occupied for Day´s before you can use it again.) Almost like a factory reset.
16. The Display of the Jukebox is showing ghosting (eg. if you are in the setup-mode -while processing, you can sometimes see the setup-page, even when the plate is back on the back.
temporary Solution: PIN-Reset on Jukebox
17. Several serious JukeBox issues like:
a- the Display don´t react anymore,
b- you can still change between Playlist and radio, but you can not start another source/track… .
c- you can only start songs over the BeoMusic-App.
d- when you switch of the entire System the BS Moment-Display stays ON or stays OFF permanently
e- shuffle (double-tap) don´t work anymore
f- Display stays on, if you turn over the Jukebox (wooden side on top)
g- Jukebox is getting hot.
temporary Solution: PIN-Reset on Jukebox/Soundheart
18. The BS Moment show´s after processing (checkmark is there) only Deezer-Content no tracks of your
music-collection. But you can see all your tracks, Albums, Playlists on the BeoMusic App.
temporary Solution: check your Twonky-Server, if he is up and running
PIN-Reset on Jukebox / Soundheart, wait some minutes afterwards
19. Tracks of the playlist aren´t shown in the BeoMusic-App. The Moment shows the playlist including tracks -but in the wrong order.
20. Every time, when BS Moment is updating Deezer, the connection to the (still running) Twonky-Server get´s lost. The Moment shows the new
Deezer-Content, but the tracks from the Server are missing.
21. Worst case, the BS Moment loses the complete connection to the Deezer-Server. The Setup-Menu is showing several messages "unable to play track“ (from Deezer!!). But the BeoMusic App is still showing the music on the NAS. It is even possible to start songs with the help of the BeoMusic App. After a restart the BS-Moment forgets the Twonky-Server.
temporary Solution: choose the server again - and do a complete rescan/processing of the database
- day eating process (depending on the amount of tracks on the Twonky-Server)
22. Shuffle tracks in the playlist works, if you double tab on the seen “playlist“ on the Jukebox-Display, but it is not “real shuffle“ If I double tab on a playlist, It will shuffle the songs, but the first song is always the first song in line on the playlist - always.
some Tip´s
1. regarding creating playlists: (thanks to chris)
If you create playlists on a Mac´s, the OS creates paths with “forwardslash / “. Windows PC´s are creating paths with “backslash \ “. This backslash-version is needed, if you want to put the playlist on a other NAS than Twonky. If you put the playlist created on a Mac on a NAS, they won´t show on the BS Moment. Only the Twonky-Server don´t care about slash/backslash and supports both. Therefore, if you create a playlist on a Mac and intend to use it on a NAS, you have to open the Playlist after exporting with TextEdit and „search/replace“ slash with backslash.
If you have the Music on your Mac and you use Twonky. And if you have exported a playlist and copied it into the music-folder, the Moment will show two playlists (the playlist embedded in iTunes (as eg. Blues (iTunes)) and your created playlist (eg. Blues) side by side (double). Therefore you have to decide, which of them you have to delete. I recommend to delete the playlist in itunes, because the BS Moment adds to every playlist title the extension (iTunes). Does not look so well.
Solution: None
2. regarding Fingerprints
Solution: use a simple touch-pen, even a cheap one is enough.
3. Are there Differences between the Twonky-Server-Versions 7.2.8 and 8.0.3, regarding the BeoSound Moment?
I tried both versions. the Twonky Server version 7.2.8. is not slower or faster, but I recommend using the latest Twonky-Version 8.0.3. It is stable, you will have a better look and feel (overview) in the music tab of the Twonky server.
I tried to get answers, from B&O which settings they would recommend, but I got no answer yet. I am looking forward ;-)
4. Is it risky to update my Mac to the latest Yosemite-Version including iTunes-Version (12.2.1.16)?
This update was quite hassle-free for me. I was not forced to do the whole processing on the BeoSound Moment again. Just a restart and start the search for new content in the settings menu of the BeoSound Moment. Everything will be fine.
5. My BeoSound Moment don´t shows the content of my MacMini (Late 2014) running with twonky after some days -out of the blue. Do I have to do a complete factory reset?
This issue is a apple issue. Since the latest intel-haswell-version, the MacMini won´t work proper with some TV´s or Display. The Mac Mini don´t recognize the Display anymore after it is switched off or it went into the suspend/Sleeping mode) one of these Displays is my BeoVision 8-40. After a day or more (it differs), the mac wont display anything. he is still up and running, I could connect via VNC, but the BeoVision stays dark. This wake-up/Sleep Display issue is already addressed to Apple since they announced the new (and not improved) MacMini - but Apple did not solved the problem yet.
But still, if you can´t/don´t want to move the new macMini, there is no complete factory reset on the BeoSound Moment necessary. Just do a restart on your MacMini, Wait until the twonky-Server finished his processing - then do a PIN-reset on the Jukebox and the Soundheart and you will see the content of your Macmini again.
This issue is known for the latest MacMini. If you experience the same issue on a older version of the MacMini, you will have to update your firmware. Apple had the same trouble years ago. They needed 2 years to provide a new firmware to solve some display-issues.
I had to move the MacMini away from the BV-8 to a LG TV in the guest-room. Since then the Macmini is working perfect. Wake-up as it should be - and stays connected to the Beosound Moment in the same network. If you don´t have a BV 8 or a different Display/Screen, this issue will have no impact on you.
Basic Informations on the Customer:
1. the whole network is a very stable gigabit-network, with high transfer-rates (120GB-Database copy= 52 Minutes)
2. Customer had to buy a separate Mac Mini to use a Twonky-Server, because the BS Moment won´t work properly with the existing Synology NAS
3. All Files are tagged with the correct gracenote-compatible informations and album-covers (500x500)
4. All Playlists are working
5. All Informations embedded in the tracks are shown instantly, correctly and in the right order
- on every DLNA-Client (Phone (iOS, Android), TV, Mediaplayer (Soft- and Hardware-Player))
- but not on the BS Moment
