P.S. On topic: Abt out of Chicago sold B&o online for years -though they seem to have retreated from that within the last year or so. They still maintain a showroom, however.

I believe that stores running unofficial websites are liable to be giraffed by head office.

Don't get me started on Marius!

Well, the Abt store deal was official with B&o and dates back to about ~2000ish or so.

As mentioned, Abt still maintains a showroom as far as I know. Oh, and they are located ~15 minutes from B&o's US headquarters.

Confirmed. The Greenwich store is apparently a women's clothing shop now.

Ah - so you find it necessary to confirm what other people say, but it's not okay if someone confirms what you say.  Do I have that right now?

Gosh, he IS grouchy, isn't he?

There have been products available online from authorised dealers for a while now.

http://www.bostpauls.co.uk

I think its a rubbish idea.  I can't imagine the frustration a convert to the brand would have when he got his new B&O kit delivered and had to try and figure out installing it himself.

Hardly the experience and first exposure to a luxury item you should get when you come home and find it all nicely setup and installed by some experts.

Authorised by whom, themselves!

B&O set a criteria to allow their dealers to trade online. As the new kids on the block they did not meet these T&C's, they simply setup their own website and stuck their fingers up at the hand that feeds them peeing off their neighbours and more established dealers around them.

It amazes me and others in the know that B&O do not stamp their authority on matters like this which are clearly in breach of contract.

A website is not the right platform to be purchasing B&O core products from and I doubt it materialises much trade.

E commerce has it place for quick and convenient purchases, not a £6000+ TV and network link AV solutions.

Found this comment from B&O in an article of the online Jyllandsposten.

You'd probably have to run that through 'Google Translate' ;-)

http://epn.dk/brancher/detail/ECE6482687/b-o-vores-produkter-skal-opleves/

- Onlineshopping is NOT part of a recent general B&O strategy - but the initiative from the store in Frederikshavn is welcomed as way for a dealer to reach his costumers, -

As I wrote in an earlier post: I see it as just another way of advertising to get (new) costumers into the shop!

Greetings Millemisen

Apple sells B&O online, so why not an authorized dealer?  The reality of retail distribution. What disturbs me more  is the group dumping BeoPlay in the UK.  In the US when an unauthorized group dumps a product, the warranty doesn't transfer. What about UK?

Luxussound has been around for quite some time.

They have been selling the whole B&O range online for a couple of years. So the store mentioned above was not the first.;)

I tried to raise the question:

Do you think it is a good idea to sell the Bang & Olufsen products online?

Evening all.  I would have to say that my initial substantial foray into B&O has not been the luxury experience that I would have hoped for.  Dead pixels on BV11 and questions about replacement (although it was eventually replaced) and fail to deliver product in anything even remotely like a reasonable time.  I ordered a motorised stand for BV11 - 7 weeks ago, was told 3 weeks, still not here and given a demo store unit instead.  So frankly, where it not for the initial complication of set up and all that, I would have been more than happy to shop the entire experience on-line, particularly if it came with a discount.  It would be unlikely to be any more fraught than it was with the store experience, although they did try hard, I will give them that credit.

The post was triggered by an article about an official danish B&O retailer, who made an online-shop recently.

It was refered to as the first of its kind there.

In  the discussions on the following 4 pages there were several examples of other stores going online - some already long ago.

The mentioning of the danish online store opening was meant a a vehicle for the question:

is it a good idea to sell the complete B&O product collection online?

Not all B&O products are plug and play ; the V1 is not sold online. Ours too hours to install, by the shop .

Sold online at LuxusSound, Amazon, Abt, shopbangolufsen.com.

I wonder where people, who bought a V1 online, try to get support, if they need it?

Customer Service hotline, BeoWorld, and Sounds Heavenly, where else?  Auto Dealers in US have internet sales managers, why not B&O?
