With a 2-way remote (and compatible BeoCenter like the BC9500), the Beocenter can also send IR signals back to the remote. This is helpful to confirm radio station setting, CD track number, volume etc. With the BC9500/BL5000 combination, 2-way IR also lets you programme timer play/record settings over a full weekly time period, rather than the more limited (24 hour) timer functions that can be accessed just from the front panel.

It is worth trying A.OPT 4, but I don't think the BS4000 supports this as only A.OPTs 0, 1, 2, 5 and 6 are mentioned in the setup manual. You could of course put the BS4000 in A.OPT 0 so that it no longer responds to any IR, but you will of course have to operate it from its front panel. In the BV10 service manual it states: PUC TYPE ENABLED - DISABLED When ENABLED there is no analog tuner, no video distribution and no DVB. Used in BV10-32 US, type 9577, BV10-40 MKII US, type 9573, BV10-46 MKII US, type 9567 and BV8-40 MKII US, type 9563. So I am not sure how that relates to the problem, but am glad that you have found a solution!
