So does anyone know if I can use Beolab 4500's with a Beosysetm 3 and use them as my front speakers?

I ask the question as I cant get them to work. I know the speakers work as I connected them into the BS3 as the center and they worked fine but I want to use them as fronts

Thanks

You need to go into the setup of the BeoSystem 3 and tell it that you'll be using front speakers...  I doubt BeoLab 4500 will be in the menu though!  Just tell it that a pair of BeoLab 4000 are fronts - that should do it.

Also, if you're using Mk2 PowerLink Cables the displays should also work on them...

Aside of the display you'll find a switch (stby, audio, video). Slide them to video

Do you actually have a centre speaker connected?

Yes Im using a Beolab 10 out of the "Center" power link connection on the BS3 and have connected the 4500's to power link 2 and 3

I have sound out of the Beolab 10 but none from the 4500's

I think it's a set-up issue...

Is the menu black and white, or grey?

Do the stdby lights switch from red to green?

If not, try a fully wired PL cable (pin1 needed to switch on your BL4500s) or solder bridge from pin4 to pin1.

Do your BLs click when you press the mute button?

Thanks for all your help guys!

The menu on the BeoVision 4 is a black background with grey writing. When the text is selected the writing turns white with a grey strip

The standby light on the BL's is red when the TV is off and when turned on the LED goes out and the display on the speaker turns on

The BL's do nothing when the mute button is pressed

Thanks

Okay - so you have the latest software on your BSys3 if the background is black - but the text should be white.. ?

The speakers clicking on, then doing nothing means they're wired correctly but need the BeoSystem 3 to recognise and configure them properly.

I'd love to talk you through this with a BSys3 in front of me, but basically you need to enter the speaker set-up and scroll down until the speakers hiss, then choose each one.

Do you have the set-up guide?

I think theres a menu area where you assign the speaker its either SOUND or CONNECTIONS and you have  a list of speakers which you assign but don't assume that the fronts are speaker 1 & 2 you work down the list until you can hear white noise and the assign that speaker.

Hope that helps

Sounds like Lee is on the right track here.

If you don`t have the guide, you will find at least the BV7-40/55 setup guide on the customer service site at Bang-Olufsen.com.

It`s the same as the BS3.

Good luck.

It seems you assigned the speaker type, but didn't assign a speaker role.
