Hi,
In case it's of interest, I just put a new posting on the blog about loudspeaker directivity.

Have a nice weekend - or at least what's left of it...
Cheers

Excellent explanation of one of the more difficult things to get across to non acoustic types. The plots are particularly useful in visualizing what's going on. Excellent plot on the BL5.
BTW, got a similar plot of the BL9s?

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Jeff:BTW, got a similar plot of the BL9s?
Unfortunately, no - I've shown all the ones I have on-hand.
But I can dig around to see if we have any others available - but I doubt it, especially for the BL9. The problem is that we've changed our measurement system from a custom software package to a Matlab-based one. I run Matlab on my machine, but I can't run the older custom SW (a Mac vs. old Windows issue...). I can't even import the data from the "old" measurements we have from the development of the 9's.
If I'm/you're lucky, I might be able to get someone to show me how to boot up the older SW, load up the older data, and do a screenshot - but the formatting will not be as easy to understand as the plots I've shown here, since we normally look at contour plots with 0.5 dB steps down to at least -20 or -30 dB. This makes for a lot more lines, and much less intuitive presentation of the data.
In other words, it's not an easy task to get the BL9's - so I can't promise anything.
Sorry...
Thanks anyway! I was curious about the differences between it and the 5, as it transitions from the cone mid to a small tweeter in an ALT lens, without the benefit of the midrange ALT dome. But the mid cone is smaller too.
I do know that my BL9s have a wonderful sound and seem to completely disappear sonically, and display a very wide sweet spot. I've got more hours on the 9s, and it's been a while since I've hard the 5s, so I have a hard time comparing them in my mind.
