I have been unable to find a spare needle for a Beogram 2000 record player - all I can find is the whole cartridge for sale, which I don't need. Anybody know where to find this, as I can't find anything online?
You will have to get your old cartridge repaired, it is not possible to change needle on B&O cartridges, check here which one you need wil depend on your model, the older BG 2000 came with SP10A the newer with a MMC4
Welcome to the forum
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
I'm guessing it's an SP10A but the OP needs to confirm the exact cart it is. A replacement SP10 is always available on eBay and Axel does retip SP's - mine has just been done.

Soren, sorry but I think it is not exactly correct.
If he has a rare old version of Beogram 2000 (Type 5240) than he has probably one of the cartridges SP10/12/14. it is possible to change the needle on them but there are no more original needles to get, only the copies of them (not all of them are bad). Occasionally they occur in Ebay and are not expensive. Few months ago I bought 2 pieces for 50€ (25€ per piece) and they were good.
Of course the repair / retipp by Axel is always a possibility (SP's).

Thanks Dave. Have confirmed it is an MMC4 - is it possible to get just the needle for this? Can't seem to find anywhere but what is "Axel" - would they retip it and how does this work? Do you have to send the cartridge away? Excuse my ignorance on this!
Regards, Steve
Hi Steve,
no problem. For any of the MMC 1-5 range (1 is best) the internals of the cartridge are essentially the same and only the diampnd and cantilever differ. 'Axel' is the name of a guy in Germany who repairs or re-tips cartridges. You send him the complete cartridge and he opens it up, repairs the old rubber suspension (which fails over time) and re-tips with a new diamond and/or cantilever as requested by the owner.
You can upgrade an MMC5 to the equal of an MMC1 but it costs a lot. For 99 € you can have your MMC4 repaired to like new by him by following this link:

Don't buy a replacement cartridge described as New old stock etc from eBay as they will also no doubt have suspension failure and you'll be back to square one.
There are other options such as 'Soundsmiths' or Benny in the US. If you search Beoworld you will find all sorts of info about re-tipping cartridges. There was a comparison recently between 3 services.
Many thanks Dave. Much appreciated.
