I currently have a Beomaster 5500.

There is a Beomaster 5000 for sale nearby at a good price.

I think I remember reading the the RIAA in the Beomaster 5000 is better quality.

Does anyone have any experience with these two units? Do they differ otherwise in functionality?

They are quite different in some aspects.
The Beomaster 5000 can be operated from the front panel whereas
the Beomaster 5500 needs a remote control to do anything apart from on/off.

The Beomaster 5500 is not at all a bad receiver but I always liked the sound of the 5000 a little more.

The 5500 can be operated with a Beo4/Beolink 1000 - the 5000 cannot. The pre-amp in the 5000 is better and the line out is a proper line out not an attenuated amplified output, which is what the 5500 has. I use a 5500 as it has lots of connections and uses the same remote as all my newer equipment.

I haven't BM5500 connected to my BV7 and other link speakers. So it would not work in that setup.

But then again... They match. So I could put it on top of the other Stick out tongue

How much better would you say the sound is from the BM5000?

Very marginal - I doubt I could tell doing a double blind. In fact I definitely couldn't these days! Had both and still have 5500.

How does the Beomaster 7000 compare?

The difference between any of these as had been suggested is absolutely minimal. You won't hear any difference between a 5500 or a 7000.

Martin, stop dicking around with me ;)

I'll stick with my 5500 then :)

I'll change the caps on the ps as you suggested.

Still have my broken BG8002 if someone is up for changing it for something else..
