Penta crossover Capacitors

I'm thinking of doing a bit of capacitor replacing on some speakers and then thought about my Beovox Pentas. I haven't seen much info about people replacing the caps in Penta's. Has anyone done it and how tricky is it.

There have been many threads about changing caps in both penta's and other B&O speakers. Try the search Facility.

I think that Martin "Dillen" has some capacitor-sets for the pentas.

This is not much about caps in the x-overs -but it gives you a hint. You can find others more specific about that.

Richard, if the Penta's sounds good why bother changing caps on the cross-over boards. I did several attempts changing caps on Penta's but could not hear the difference. A friend of mine (BW member) did the same on his Penta's and experienced the same thing.

I have a thread where comparison will take place soon on 3 RL7000's and 2 RL140's each with different type of caps even with the expensive Jantzen types, and one which still has the original ones. Let's see what that result will be.

If you feel comfortable having new ones why not, but if it adds some value, hmmmm.

How much attemps did you do?

Probably not a proper one? One penta compared with the other? Left versus Right (with differences in source?)

 

I've demonstrated in front of a number (35) of people with 2 complete sets of Penta's. With a (selfmade) "switch"box, I was able to demonstrate music fluently (as in "fade out on 1 set and fading in on the other set) between the 2 sets. A remarkable difference was noticable.

Don't forget that memorizing the sound of music is very difficult and has at least to be done with a complete set where stereo information can be heard to make the difference more audible.

I think now 2 pair Beovox Penta's without the labs and the result was minimal. Cheap caps have been used like Dillens and local ones.

Just talking about the cross-overs. Probably you did the labs as well so that I presume could make a difference.

6 selector speakers switch box is on the made which will be remote controlled so I could listen to 5 pairs without leaving my chair.

Just told you, have to wait for the result.
