Hello everybody,

this subject has may be already been discussed here, so please redirect me if you know...

My question is how many Beolab is best for music (only, not home cinema) : 2 or 4?

My current setup is 1xBL11 & 2xBL8000, placed in front of the listening place of course.

I listen to high bitrate radios, mainly jazz or eclectic, volume set from low to medium.

What's your experience between this 2 setups?

Of course, you may say that 2xBL5 will be better than what I have... so the question may also be "what to add to my setup to improve it?"

General consensus says 2 speakers for music.  4 speakers can sound a bit echo like and you can lose the stereo image.  If you have a system set-up, try playing with the settings and adjust as necessary until you're happy.  I did this yesterday after receiving a BS9000 and connecting it to my BV7_55 with BL7.4 centre, BL3000's as fronts and BL8000's as rears.  When I'd done lots of playing around with speaker groups for film, TV and music, I turned off the BL7.4 centre and BL8000's and just use the BL3000's for music.  To me, in my room it sounds much better.

Dave.

Hi Christopher,

with 'for music', you probably mean 'music from a stereo source'?

I (as a purist) would go for the setup, that you already have.

However you did not write anything about how (to what) the speakers are connected - a BeoMaster or a BeoVision?

Connected to a BV - a lot of people go for the 'Speaker 4 option', when they are 'easy-listening', means listening, when they are doing something else at the same time. Many have even 'Speaker 4' as default - probably because they are pure 'easy listeners'.

Those, who prefer sitting down for the more concentraded listening experience, mostly choose the 'Speaker 2' option as default - and change manually to 'Speaker 4 (or even 5), if needed,

As for the speakers - if I were to use the 'Speaker 4' option as my default, I would prefer to have the same set of speakers in the back as in the front.

By the way - if your speakers are connected to a newer BV (BV11.. etc), you might even get a better result from it's sound engine, when upmixing, than from the 'old' BSys3-based systems.

But as ever - what pleases you, is what is the 'right thing'!!!

If you have the possibility of borrowing a second set of the BL8000's (or any other BL), it would be the best way to find out, what you want.

P.S. If you go for the second pair of BL's, you are prepared for multichannel music as well Smile

Hi MM,

the 3 BLs are connected to a BS Essence, and I'm not an easy-listener (unfortunately).

I guess the only way to "really" improve the sound quality is to empty my wallet (again) Wink

I have 2XBL1's connected to the BL11-55, and listen to music with just the BL1s and also with all speakers on. Generally i have found some that it depends on the music. About 70% of the music sounds better with the four speakers and the sound engine on the BV11 does a great job in managing the speakers. There is some music which sounds a bit unnatural with the 4 speakers, however. So really depends on the source.

BV11-55, BS9000, BL1, BL19, Transmitter 1, Beo4, Beocom 6000, BeoTalk1 200, Sennheiser HD600, McIntosh MHA100

This information will certainly be interesting for the ones owning a BV11-55 (I don't).

So, if I summarize, using 4 speakers needs a performing sound engine like the one in BV (for surround).

I don't know if "stereo" systems like Beosounds have this skill?

Why?

You already have a nice setup.

Enjoy it!
