I have the Beomaster 6000 4ch and Beogram 6000 4ch.
What cartridge/needle do I need in order to get 4ch option work on my Beogram/master 6000?
Is this or this a record I could use to hear 4ch sound?
And which speakers are recommended to connect to my Beomaster?

The 6000 system can play either CD4 records or SQ. To play CD4, you need a special tip to the cartridge - MMC5000, MMC6000 (it is likely that original versions of these will no longer work) MMC20CL or a shibata tipped MMC from Axel. These are discrete 4 channel records - the best type. To play SQ records, any stylus will do and you switch on the matrix decoder on the 6000. Recommended speakers are either 4x S60, or P50. Having said that, any of the decent Beovox range will do. I think you will find most CD4 records a disappointment, as if they have been played with a normal heavy tracking cartridge, the rear channels will distort badly. To get the best out of the system, you need an unplayed record!

Thanks Peter! Am I correct that a lamp will light up on the Beogram when a 4ch record plays?
You need the decoder switched on but when it detects the 45kHz carrier wave, the 4ch light switches on. That is for CD4 records, not SQ.
Yes Leslie, when a 30khz carrier is detected the lamp will light. I have found out this system is a very delicate balance of damn good cart, a1 vinyl and properly setup decoder in good working order! If there are two unknown variables and you can't get it to work you are pi55ing in the wind lol!

Now you guys making me curious. I have a MMC20CL, just need a 4-cd record to test.

Not wishing to be a wet blanket, but the actual sound of these records is usually a disappointment. That allied to the fact that no new quad records have been made available for some considerable time relegates this format to a curiosity. The BM 6000 is a delight as is the BG6000 though.
CD4 seemed to be doomed from the outset.The record companies resented having to make albums available in several formats,so there was a very limited catalogue for CD4.The format was very temperamental in use too.I remember that the MMC6000 was the only pu capable of passing the carrier signal for the rear channel info.It was affected by temperature,so we often had to remove it from the deck,hold it in the palm of the hand,then refit it to get results!!!
Once working though,it was the best of the surround sound systems.I heard a demo of Santana's Abraxas and others and it was quite something.(1974?)

Santana Abraxas available in CD-4 LP? Would like to have that one same as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon!
Peter: Evan and was not discussing, but wondering, what are the differences between the cartridges 10,12,14 and the same in A there is no explanation of this on the forum or on products
