Hi everyone.
Since I purchased my Beolab 2500's not too many months ago, I've always been aware of a slight humming sound when the speakers are in standby mode. It sounds excactly like the hum they produce when they are turned on (which most older amps do). I haven't had sleepless nights because of this, but this morning I decided to google the problem and see what would pop up.
From what I've read so far, they are definitely not supposed to hum when on standby.
I found this thread which seems to describe the same problem (only in my case, the problem exists in both speakers): link
Is this a serious problem that could end up causing massive damage to the internal amp or is it not something to lose sleep over? Also: does it mean that they don't power off the way they should or how would one diagnose such a problem? The green light turns to red when I turn the speakers off, so something is definitely happening.
I absolutely love the Beolabs, but I got them cheap and don't intend to spend a whole lot on repairs - I am merely curious as to what the problem is and if I risk damaging the speakers by leaving them in standby mode instead of switching the power off all together.
All the best
Rasmus
I'd be ready at this point for the power supply/s to be failing.
That's what I had with my first pair of 4000's... it was not cheap to fix.
Leave them on at the power. Switching them off at the powerpoint is just going to aggravate any potential power supply failure
