Hello,
my BV11 from Dec 2013 (WISA) has had a technical problem since purchase. Now, after one year, my dealer has offered me to either exchange the faulty TV against a brand new Dec 2014 model or have the video engine (or something like that) replaced.
I was going for a replacement until I read in this forum (fellow member Doubleola) that the present BV11 model does not have the quick access panel on top of the TV any longer.
Now, this has put me in a dilemma. I can either get a new BV11 with a reduced feature set or I can keep the old one with all the features and just have the video engine replaced.
The BV11 has come down in price, now we know why, they stripped it down. And that is just what is easily visible. Have they stripped down also other parts of the TV which you do not notice so easily? I have paid a much higher price in Dec 2013 and I paid for the quick access panel. And this panel is convenient, though I do not use it a lot currently but that may change at any time.
I just don't know what to do. I do not like the idea of having work done on my BV11, i.e someone fiddling in a TV that was bought new but I also think it's a step backward taking the new BV11. And honestly, B&O is also a major disappointment. I do not know of any other TV producer that would degrade their products. Usually, they improve.
What would you do? Keep the "old" BV11 and have the video engine fixed or exchange for a new BV11 and lose the quick access panel and maybe more things hidden from the naked eye?
In this circumstance I'd go with the replacement.
I would have a HDMI cable and a USB cable off to the side from one of the rear inputs and plug it in as required therefore acting as your quick access, diff is that its plugged in :-)
rob08:The dec 2014 bv11 also has built in wisa which may be handy in the future should you want to buy any new wisa speakers. I guess it comes down to what feature you think you will use the most.
WISA functionality trumps the access panel. It's more future proof. :-)

Thanks a lot for all the replies so far. Really appreciate it. I still need a little while to come to a conclusion but after your comments I slighthly tend to have it exchanged.
The fault is not with the WISA, it's the video board or whatever it's called, basically the heart of the TV. One of the problems is, that Telextext is not working on some channels, there are problems with the EPG, the recorder, etc. All the faults cannot be seen on the BV11 at my dealers.
Hi I have a May 2014 (same as yours) I would keep it over the new cheaper model, since I think it is a downgrade. If you are going to change it go for the new 55 Avant and pay the retail difference.
Going for an Avant is not really an option, my BV11 is on the motorized stand which cannot be re-used. So, the pay up would be too high and not worth it. I also do not really like the looks of the Avant, looks way too conventional.
Anyway, I have made my mind up. It came to me last night on public transport on the way home from the office christmas party. My dealer told me, the quick access panel had been removed because of its low usage. So, on the train last night, I downloaded the Avant user manual only to find out, it also has a quick access panel (different location).
So, low usage my a...... It has been removed entirely for economical reasons and the 2014 BV11 is a downgrade from the earlier BV11. I have paid the higher price of the model with the panel, so I want to have it. Or else, B&O would have to reimburse me somehow which they will not do. Plus, who knows what else they have downgraded.
I am going to have my BV11 repaired. Thank you all for your valued opinion.
To the bin!
There is still a USB in the main access panel, though.
There is no headphone connection anymore - time for a WiSA compatible headphone

There is a tv - and there is a BV
BeoGreg:Whent to my shop this morning, sad but true, no more quick panel on the back of the BV11's. Seen it with my eyes couldn't believe it ! The rest visible parts of the tv was identical to the "old" ones.

That is what your eyes can see. We don't know what has happened inside of the TV. I will not take any chances.
All the TVs I have owned since the 1980s have had some form of quick access panel. At the old times it was for plugging in your video camera. Why do B&O cripple their own TV? Because the BV11 compared to the Avant was and still is too expensive. So, instead of improving it to make the price gap more plausible, they downgraded it.
So, if you buy a BV11 now, you spend roughly USD 10'000 and if you want to quickly plug in a USB stick or an HDMI device (camera, photo) you have to go on your knees and crawl behind your TV. Great customer experience.
If you think about it, it could be true that many, many people don't use that panel anymore for example, I don't know anyone with camcorders anymore - It's all smartphones which of course stream wirelessly to your Apple TV box so maybe the dealers are correct on this. I guess a brand new 2014 BV11 will nave a different more modern Samsung LCD panel than last years?
Now that LG are heavily concentrating on OLED & their 55" is now £1999, it may not be that long before it finds its way into a B&O TV - maybe even this time next year guys! :)
There should be a USB connection on the back. It is not pictured in the manual, they cut the panel graphics. Just very unconvenient to access temporarily.
B&O, that was a foolish thing to do.
My V1-32 was born without 'a quick access panel', but - like the BV11 - it has a USB port in the main panel.
Installing it, I connected a USB extension cable - just in case I would need it.
The end is located right next to my bluray player.
I used it a couple of times - thats all!

There is always a work-around, that is not the point. It's about principles. They downgrade a product and tell their customers, that panel was removed because it's hardly used while at the same time launching a new TV that comes with the panel. It's a big fat lie.
I am also mad, that B&O would not make Deezer available on my BV11, which was only 5 months old when the Avant was introduced and was even 20% more expensive than the Avant. I would understand if it was for technical reasons, but it's not. They just want to push the Avant and forget about the other customers. Would I use Deezer? No. Do I use Spotify? No. It's about showing respect to your good paying customers and offer the best possible service.
Personally I do not see a reason to be either mad or disappointed. Your 1 year old tv broke, they offer you a choice between a new one or repair yours. Quite good service I would say.
Regarding the quick access panel, new customers pay less and they have a choice right? They can either buy it or not. A big fat lie sounds a little over the top here I would say. And the BV 11 has Deezer.

My BV11 is still under warranty, so an exchange or repair is the least one can expect. It has been faulty from day 1. I only blame myself for not pushing harder to have it fixed earlier.
Deezer is not on my BV11, maybe it's a regional/country restriction thing or because of the faults I am experiencing. But good to know it has been activated.
I do like the brand, in fact, I have just purchased a BL14 2.1 and the new remote (silky). So, I still trust them.
