Hi everyone

After a long period when the MCP5500 has not been used, I recently put in some batteries to give my old BM5500 a spin.  From the moment that the batteries were in place, the display has continued to flash.  I always thought that a flashing display was a sign of low battery power so I carried out some tests with the following observations.

Even with a flashing display, the MCP5500 is able to talk to the Beomaster and all commands are accepted.  The status of the Beomaster is also returned to the MCP.

I tried the same batteries in an MCP5000 where they worked OK and produced a stable display.

I opened up the MCP5500 and measured the voltage across the terminals at 5.8V, equivalent to 1.45V per cell.  Since this might be on the low side for a 1.5V battery, I then connected an external 6V power supply which gave 6.3V at the terminals.  Still, the display continues to flash.

Clock, date and store functions all work properly.

I have now concluded that there might be an electronic fault.  Before I start to butcher this unit, has anyone any ideas on what could be wrong or what I might have overlooked.

Regards

Geoff
