Hi,

I have just brought a second life (brand new in box) Beosound Essence.

Having had a quick play round with it, very happy with the Radio and aiplay but it’s the BeoMusic app I am struggling with. I have all my music on a NAS.

When I open up BeoMusic app the NAS folder on the Beomusic it opens the first 20 albums I then have to scan down and the next 20 open, with over a 1000 albums this just takes too long.

Also is there a search option as I don’t seem to be able to find one.

At present I am using 8player to aiplay music to the essence but then I could have done that with a playmaker.

Any idea on how to speed up how the  Beomusic app find data from the NAS and also how to search?

Thanks

Toby

Hi,

Is any one using the Beomusic app?

Can you do a search on the music that is stored on a NAS?

When you connect to a NAS drive does it only bring up the first 20 songs or albums until you scan to the bottom then it brings up the next 20?

I hope someone can help as this is really spoiling my use of the BS Essence.

Thanks

Hi,

I've had a MusicM8 NAS with Twonky.

Accessing its content from the Beomusic app was a real pain in the neck...

Now I do not have it anymore, so I can't verify if the last release of the app is faster.

I just bought a Synology NAS and it seems the Beomusic app can't see it (a Twonky server is needed as far as I understand)

What is the brand/model of your NAS?

Hi Toby,

I'm glad I found this thread as I was thinking of adding an essence to my set up very soon. Sorry I can' t help now, but I have a demo lined up for tomorrow afternoon, so will be checking this out as I too have all my cd collection on my NAS so beomusic app needs to be able to access all of this otherwise, like you say, a playmaker would do just fine. I too currently use 8player iPad app to access my NAS. I really like the idea of the essence, but maybe in practice it's not so good for my/our set ups.

I will come back tomorrow with anything I learn. I hope there is a solution.

Stevegee / Toby,

Have a Synology DS214play and a DS211. Both works fine with the BeoMusic App (allthough the app itself is not super stable).  Music is streamed directly from the NAS to the Essence via DLNA (as far as I can tell). I have not found a search function, but you have the standard "genre/album/artist"-sorting which is helpful (the NAS sets this up). Not all fileformats seem to work, but the Synology should be able to convert on the fly (have not yet tried).

Stevegee, one thing to consider before adding an essence now: B&O is adding multiroom functions with the new Moment and I am not sure if/how the current essence will support that - perhaps your dealer will know?

Interesting!

Did you set some specific parameters in the DSM dashboard?

Hi BR,

Thanks. - i did ask that, I was told the current essence won't support the multi room and Moment but a V2 essence due out will, not sure when it is due out though. Basically, this won't be a software upgrade, its a new Essence. Disappointing, but if I can't find a release date of V2 then I will get something like a sonos connect in the interim. I am not sure about the moment as yet, mainly due to budget.

Now that it is out, I can confirm, that there wil be a 'BS Essence 2nd Generation' soon.

Actually that was the one, that was shown at the 'multi-room demo' at CES earlier this month.

Just like with the new A9 the new Essence will be a hardware-upgraded version.

Thanks MM - do you have any idea/clue to how soon 'soon' is?

No!

But the 'multi-room'-thing is supposed to be rolled out in the spring/the first half of the year.

I was told that the essence would just need to be updated by software for multiroom, that was one of the reasons I brought the thing, as I had planned to get a BS moment later in the year to use with the essence. But if I need to buy a new essence as well, then I think I will just keep my olive one (which was only brought as a temporary solution). I am guessing the mm 1 essence will not get any more updates to make it into an NL product.

the essence could have been a great product but after using it for a while the Beomusic app lets it down. There is no search on your own music from a NAS, and it is to slow to load music fro the NAS ( non of my other apps are that slow) (I am using a QNap NAS with twonkey on there).

Once again the software interface has let B&O down to produce a medieocre product, no wonder the company is suffering, they really should just stick to what they are good at and just make speakers.

Had the demo and some time to play with the Essence and app. No problems with NAS connection, they have multiple NAS drives to choose form and all worked fine with all albums detected. i asked the question and they had no such problem when implementing. A good friend of mine works there so I trust him when he says this.

Was a little underwhelmed by the app, in terms of no search function and no imbedded Spotify, deezer, tidal etc but Spotify connect and tunein radio worked very nicely. Love the control knob with table base (or whatever it's called). I was looking mainly at functionality but did come away thinking the sound quality was very good, it was connected to Lab3's. So all in all I like it, but either way need to wait for V2 now and I will of course check out the Moment next week.

Toby - hope you get your problem with NAS connection solved. I was hoping to pick up some words of wisdom for you from dealer, but they had not experienced this before.
