Is it possible to connect a link room speaker such as beolab 3500 to a playmaker or airport express?

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

use this one:

http://almando.com/index.php/almando-category/masterplay-masterlink-konverter/almando-masterplay.html?___store=endkunde_eng&___from_store=default

Alternatively find someone to 'rebuilt' your BL3500 (would cost as much or even more).

you need an ML Converter (type 1611) - this is the newer one

connect the 3500 via masterlink cable to the ML converter box

connect the Airport Express (AE) stereo 3.5mm jack to the 5 pin DIN socket on the ML, yes you will need the correct cable to do this

then use a Beo 4 remote to activate RADIO or TV (which turns on your 3500 speaker at the same time, grab your iPad, iPhone device, and use Airplay to send music to the AE

NB if you use the Beo4 to select another source it will mute the 3500, since the default sources are only TV or RADIO (pressing PLAY on the 3500 won't work either)

lots of people have done this in the past so they can buy a non B&O Plasma TV and use the 3500 underneath as a centre speaker in another room, it is the main reason ML 1611 boxes command such a high second user value

Is it possible to make a Masterlink converter box? Does anyone have a circuit diagram?

Thanks.

These go for 20 - 30 Euro  on Ebay....

... not worth "making" one IMHO.

Hi ouverture,

hadn't thought of that, when I wrote my post above.

But you are quite right - and it's a rather cheap way of doing it too.

The 1611 simply acts as a driver on the ML.

Hi Millemissen & Overture.

your right, the 1611 is much cheaper than the almando Masterplay but it's also less comfortable.

With the Masterplay (and its automatic signal detection) you just have to start Airplay and the 3500 plays the music automatically.

With the 1611 you have to activate the 3500 with the beo4, before you can listen to the Airport Express (or to the TV or whatever...)

Thanks!

Indeed - the autosensing of the Masterplay might be worth the higher price!

On the other hand - you'll need the Beo4 for volumen controlling anyway.
