I've been trying to get a battery replacement for the BS2 and was hoping to get it as a spare part. However I was shocked to be told by my local B&O that the unit had to be sent away to have the battery fitted and the total cost would be £180! Is this normal practice that you can't just buy a spare part?
I expected the battery to be expensive, but I can fit it myself; no way I'm paying £180 though, and it means, as I'm sure it will for a lot of people, that the BS2 will become a pretty paperweight once the battery stops holding a charge, which is a pity as it has an excellent sound.
i assume the battery can only be sourced from B&O?
Any thoughts?

I cannot tell you what battery to get but to remove it is not difficult. There are three screws to remove - one in the card slot and the two in the docking port. Take them out and the docking port should come out. The body of the BS2 then unscrews - do this carefully as there is a cable running between the two halves which has a multipin connector. Undo that and you can separate the two halves. There are three screws holding the circuit board in place - remove those. There is another multipin to the battery underneath. Remove and the battery will be revealed - it is held in place with 4 screws. It is a lithium battery but I cannot tell you a part number - may be it will be on it when you get the thing apart!! £180 is ridiculous!

If I'm not mistaken, there is a little circuit board integrated with the battery so there is no "off the shelf" replacement. You must find someone to sell you the B&O replacement part. I got mine from a local service center where I had established a bit of a relationship because of some prior business. He told me, "I'm really not supposed to do this, but... ". The battery contains some simple instructions on how to do the replacement - essentially pictures of what Peter describes above. He did warn me to be careful about static electricity. Too much static and you can fry the BS2 internals. He also said that this is one of the reasons (supposedly) for not selling them to the "general public" - they're afraid folks will kill their devices and then blame B&O. I think the part was ~$40 US a few years ago.

Thanks Stan and Peter for your replies. I think I'll scout around and see if I can find it as a spare part somewhere. Obviously as Peter says £180 is ridiculous for a change of battery, so I hope I can find one somewhere.
Another problem I have, and I think it's a common one, is the lead that goes into the power supply from the desktop charging station has a loose/broken wire (in the small rj type jack). Is this fixable?
Many thanks again for your help.
