The tone arm of my loved but mostly ignored 8000 gram is locked in the innermost position, opposite from start position. The detector light flashes so power is getting to the unit. Pressing any of the buttons does nothing, no moans or groans, platter stays still.

Have taken cartridge off so I can ease the cover and platter and turntable out so I can get at the carriage assembly.  Gripping the carriage I try to move it, all that happens is the whole balanced area moves as though the carriage was an integral welded part.

The only thing I noticed was a oil/grase  blob(?) on the plate running above the carriage screw and support bar.

The only reason I can think of why the tone arm has moved from start is our cat, he refuses to walk on the floor and all his journeys through the house are made across the furniture and accidently activating the TT controls. One of our previous cats would turn the radio on in the early hours walking across the display unit. I would like to get the unit working again as I explain to my better half, though I am ageing and my hearing failing I do appreciate the quality of sound from the B&O.

Any help much appreciated.

Bernie
