Hi guys,

I have a beovision 55 avant, and have recently started to use PLEX, which I am quite satisfied with.

Now it is time to “take it to the next level”, and I have some thoughts, that I would like to hear inputs on, from people with more experience….

Im really tired of owing a 4K tv, but now, after 6 months still have not watched even one episode of House of Cards in 4K, or a movie in 4K.. All 4k material I have seen is just some lousy videos on youtube…

Anyway, let me already now apologies for the non-native english… I’m danish :-)

So as said, I have started using PLEX, and I’m in love, but would like to combine PLEX, with 4K, so….

My idea is to buy a box of some kind, a box that has 4K output (unlike my apple tv 4th generation), and possibility to install PLEX on it. Then I would like to connect this to my TV and watch 4K tv shows, and movies through PLEX.

Can anyone recommend a good box for that?

Furthermore, my thought was, that it could be cool, if this same box had the opportunity to run the PLEX server right on it, so I do not need to have my computer running in the background also, acting as the PLEX server. If that is not possible, maybe the way to go is to get a that box, and get a NAS server to run in the background? If that is the way to go I would like to get a good NAS server recommended also.

However, let me say from now, I am not religious in regards to PLEX, and if someone have some better ideas, please let me know.

The biggest problem by now seems to be the lack of real (not pseudo) 4K material - of course this also depends on your preferences.

If I had (congrats on yours) the new Avant at home, I would buy one of the soon coming UHD/Bluray players (maybe some of these even have Plex on board?) and some of the coming 4K discs. It won't get better at the moment!

Hi Michel,

There are now many films to buy & download from VIMEO. Extreme sports distributor THE ORCHARD have release many new 4K films over the last two weeks with VIMEO offering 4K streaming as well starting next month. Certainly, if you want to test out your TV, then the film 'We are Blood' a fast edited skateboarding documentary from around the world, which is filmed on 6K RED cameras will really excite you. It has an excellent soundtrack, mastered using Dolby Atmos.  Currently £13.

For me, there's a lot of 4K content simply because VIMEO is my favourite and most interesting platform for filmmakers to show their art.

With regards to Apple TV, sit tight!

For the time being, you could try the ROKU 4 or I believe the Amazon box does 4K too although they maybe don't offer the Apple experience.

Hope all of this helps...

Amazon has loads of UHD material. On a side note I've just seen an UHD OLED 65 inch LG TV for £2,200 in the sales!!!!

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
