What’s scary — and what’s not — about energy cost.

Made a little inventory on how much the B&O gear sucks from the electricity socket when not in use.

Its remarkable how Energy-Efficient B&O today is, compared to there older types. They are really evolved in the strategy of using less energy.

Most scary thing is the Beolink NL/ML converter with 13 watts herein. There is simply no standby mode.

But I nearly fell off my chair about the so praised green Apple products. Keeping a home network 24/7 in service takes a big bite out of your electricity budget.

66,22 Watts total minus a DVD player and settopbox is leaving 64,42 Watts standby use on the network alone. Huh?

Any tips and tricks to consider?

Actually. Some years ago I had 3 setop boxes from Motorola plus a cable modem. Used for bv8-32 TVs. Each setop box used 16w in use AND in standby and the cable modem used 18w. 66w in total, 24x7. Each box took 4 minutes to start up if they were switched completely off (which they never were).

I have measured all my IT gear at home (got a lot and 3 boys), and yes, that is today's power consumer. More than we think.

About the same as an old lightbulb.

Change your home lights to LED's, and you are on the "plus" side instantly.

I think this is a storm in a drinking glass. Eating cold food might be a great option too.

Too long to list....

Remembering to turn off the light, when you don't need it, helps a lot.

I tried to teach my kids that - with mixed results, though 😢

Of course it is important to lower/to minimize the costs of the standby mode of the electronic gear, you have - but I but not renounce the pleasure/convenience of 'just hitting one button' for tv viewing or music listening in every room.

Is that the output of a monitoring tool ?

Or the result of research calculations?
