Hi all,

My first post on this forum, but I have been reading a few threads and this seems like the place to get some advice! My much loved Avant 28 RF (circa 2001) has started to show very faint lines, visible only when the screen is dark. They don't appear immediately, but appear after a few minutes of viewing, approx 16 lines running almost horizontally, slightly slanted. They run almost to each side of the screen but the ones in the centre are shorter, not running so close to the edge (so together they form an hour-glass shape). Also, when switching off, the curtain is now a red-black colour, and there is a horizontal flash on the screen, either top, central or bottom of the screen. The service meter is showing 930 days.

Are these symptoms of terminal failure Sad or is there anything that can be done? Smile

If terminal, I may be able to get a used, but low hours, tube. Would it be time consuming for an engineer to swap them?

Thanks for any help!

Simon

Welcome to Beoworld.

If you are in the UK, Lifestyle AV our site owner/sponsor is giving away for free, 3 x Avants.  Try contacting them and get a replacement.

Dave.

If you could get a new tube the cost would be around £800 if your lucky or get a free tv as above.

Good luck,

Sounds like the tube to me.

The units are reasonably cheap even if Lee cannot help. I picked up a 28 inch DVD RF for around £60 fairly recently.

Will be an awful shame when they eventually all go the way of yours though,

Ben

Hi, thanks for the replies so far, and thanks for the welcome!

Yes I saw those free Avants advertised, but I'm in Oxford so they are a bit far for me, unfortunately.

A few do come up locally, so hopefully I'll find a replacement.... but I'm fussy and want one in "as new" condition, like mine is! I may struggle now they are all over 10 years old, so I'm wondering how much in labour an engineer would charge to swap tubes if I managed to get a low-use one which may not be in great cosmetic nick???
