Hey guys,
I can only listen to one source (e.g. CD) at a time.
The other room can join - but if I switch one room to lets say radio the other room switches as well.
Is it possible to have one room listen to radio and the other to CD?
Current Settings:
Room 1:
BeoSound 9000 - A. OPT 1
BeoLink Active IR with BeoLab 4000 - L. OPT 6
Room 2:
BeoLink Active IR with BeoLab 4500 - L. OPT 6
(Note: I used to have BeoSound 9000 at A. OPT 0 but then the volume number wasn't displayed anymore while changing volume up/down so I switched to A. OPT 1.)
Thanks for your reply!
No, it is not possible to hear 2 different sources from one sound system(BS9000), in 2 different rooms..
/Weebyx
But you can connect an external source (e.g. a CD-player) to the 'PC-port' on your BeoLink Active-box.
This way you can get independent listening of a CD in that room, even if the other room listens to Radio.
By the way - welcome to Beoworld.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Just curious - why do you have a BS9000 AND a Beolink Active with your speakers connected in one room???
I don't know!!! And how's that even possible?
The BeoSound 9000 is bolted to the wall so I can't check. But as far as I remember it has got:
2x PowerLink Ports
1x MasterLink Ports
And each BeoLink Active has one MasterLink Port - so how is it possible that both BeoLinks are connected to the BeoSound 9000?
You can connect quite a few BeoLink Active's to the MasterLink-bus.
Somewhere the cable has been splittet and a second cable goes to the second BL Active.
That is the way ML works.
----
But why aren't the speakers connected to the BS9000 directly?
Are the BS9000 and the BL Active (with the speakers) in that room far from each other?
Not that it won't work - it is just not 'common' to make a setup that way.
The BS9000 alone would do the job.
max40: (Note: I used to have BeoSound 9000 at A. OPT 0 but then the volume number wasn't displayed anymore while changing volume up/down so I switched to A. OPT 1.)
When the BS9000 is in Option 0, you are controlling the system through the BL Active/ir-eye, and you are controlling the volumen of the BL Active, not of the BS 9000.
If the BS9000 is in Option 1, you control the volumen on both, but you have no sound from the BS9000, since there are no speakers connected to it - they are on the BL Active!
Very insightful, thanks for your time @Millemissen.
I looked it up: there's a limit of 16 MasterLink Products per 400 metres cables length.
---
I have no clue why the speakers aren't connected to the BeoSound 9000 directly - that would make way more sense. But the current wiring is invisible so there's not much incentive to have visible wiring instead if it's basically the same purpose, rite?
Fun fact with the audio volume! The initial volume of the BeoSound matches those of the BeoLink Active, both get set up/down, but as you reminded me, the BeoSound 9000 Volume is a dead end as no speakers are connected! Nice catch!
Nice suggestion with the PC IN of the Beolink Active. On the Beo4 Remote, how would you activate the PC IN Port?
And where does the multiroom feature of the BeoSound 9000 come in?
I thought at the time it was THE main feature of the BeoSound 9000 that you could listen to different sources in different rooms! What other devices or wireing are required to make that possible?
If you have each pair of speakers connected to a beolink active box, then it is possible to have different volume for each set of speakers, even if they are in the same room. But since the IR signals from a Beo4 are very strong, I can't see this working very good, unless the room really is big, or are having a lot of "small" rooms with walls that disrupt the IR signals.. But I don't know if this is the reason for the connections ?
I don't know where you have heard about a "multiroom" feature in the BS9000. There has never existed a masterlink product from B&O that could do what you would like it to do. It might change a bit now with the "Moment" and multiroom, but this is a completelly differerent product.
Can you explain a bit more about "the multiroom feature" you have been told about ? B&O Masterlink products, are all kind-of multiroom, but only with one source playing in all rooms. Unless you do the PC trick Millemissen talks about..

1: you just push 'PC' on the remote.
The 'PC'-command is hidden and can be activated (see the User Guide for howto) on the Beo4.
It will then be accessable by pushing 'List' on the remote several times. This opens the input port on the BL Active.
Note: you will need a cable with a special wiring for the connection of the local device.
2: the MasterLink protocol only allows for one audio-signal at a time. This has always been so, and will not change.
The new NetworkLink allows for multiple streams and is (will soon be) multi-room capable.
But that is a different story, as Weebyx already wrote above.
Raeuber: It will be interesting to see, whether you will ever have all these options with a Netlink system. Regards Räuber

Why shouldn't NL do that?
You (with your ML-setup) are just using a connected local source - there is nothing special about that (if you know howto).
The same can be done in a NL-based setup.
The point is rather: will we - with NL - be able to use sources across the network?
E.g. using the radio from an Avant in another room and using PattternPlay from a BS Moment in a third room.....at the same time!
Thanks @Weebyx @Millemissen @Raeuber for your insights! Very interesting!
I must have been mistaken with the multiroom features of the BeoSound 9000 - sorry.
Nevertheless I'm in love and it's a great device!
Thanks for your time!

I know two products that are capable of multiroom functionality:
- Beocenter 2: Watch a DVD in the mainroom and listen to radio through Masterlink.
- Beosound 4
BC2, allright then - if you call that 'multiroom'
And what does the BS4 do?
Millemissen: BC2, allright then - if you call that 'multiroom' And what does the BS4 do?
If ML and PL speakers are connected to one of those two systems you can e.g. listen to RADIO on PL and to CD on ML simultaneously. Not possible with BS9000.BR,BeoMotion.
Could you please specify, where this is described?
I am not aware of this possibility, and I was not able to find it confirmed reading the UserGuide.
The software of these two systems is basicly the same - with the additional feature of the DVD/DVD-functions on the BC2.
I know, that you can play a CD/DVD from the BC2 to the TV - because the BC2 is connected parallel via scart respectively through the dig.out connection - and Radio on the ML in another room at the same time..
I have never heard, that it would work the other way around.
You can play alsoo Radio on speakers, that are connected directly to the BC2 at the same time, as you are listening to a CD through the speakers of/connected to the tv. But this is a rather uncommon setup - unless you choose to have them in two different rooms (which is even more uncommon). Both will have to be in Option 2 (see page 11 of the UserGuide for the SocketUnit).
These things are possible because the BC2 is a video- AND an audio-system - the BS4 is just an audiosystem.
Yes, it is indeed a nice feature but I can't find something written at the moment (but I know that it is working).Maybe TWG can supply us with the specific part of the user/installation manual?I think they implemented this because a lot of people complained about the possibility to only listen to one source at the same time.
There are some people who have an audio-only link system. There this feature is also very useful.
I'll come back on this - 'cos I can't really believe that that is true!
Only seeing it/hearing it with my own ears will make me believe

Raeuber:Perhaps today we BOTH are learning something new...
Yes, I think so :-)
Found this: LINKYou have to read several posts but at the end you will read that they confirm that it is possible...

@BeoMotion
I take my hat off to you - and must apologize for being so stubborn
You did a damn good digging!
And I (and Räuber) learned something new today
So thanks for not giving in.
One source goes directly to the PowerLink and the other to the MasterLink - nice!

We certainly learned something new today - and that is fantastic....
....it seems that we never learn out?

I should not say it (it might be wrong ) - most certainly the source that goes through the PL.

Of course - apparently these two last ML-audiosystems were powerfull enough to handle two sets of commands internally.
Funny that B&O never 'told' people about this - I could not find any hint in the UserGuides.
Hi,I've only found the thread Beomotion already mentioned as well as another in the old forum:http://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/6988.aspxI don't know where else I found that information, it's too long ago. Therefore I've edited my original post and removed the part with the manual. My intention was not to provide any false information! I'm sorry for that. But the multiple source access actualy works, as I'm using my Beocenter 2 in the same way.
