Hi
I was asking for a price on a V1 today.
The nice salesman told me a price, and then told me that the V1 would be discontinued in the fall. He also said that there is no replacement planned.
Does anyone know if this is true?
Kind Regards J;-)
That seems to be correct.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
I might be misinformend but is the V1 not a good TV. Why discontinue it?
And what TV should I get instead, I'm guessing there is no BV for me in that price range to replace my wonderful BV3 (must be 13 years old).
It is a very good tv, indeed - and it has a lot of 'followers'.
No direct replacement, however does not mean, that there will be another tv from B&O.
StUrrock:BeoVision 11 next for the chop?
I suppose so!
Is it good enough for me to buy a TV that is being discontinued or should I wait and hope for a new playTV. Economy isn't ready for a BV I think.

Sorry - cannot edit the above post.
it should have been:

Hard to give any advice there - when one does not know what will come. Personally I don't believe that there will be a new B&O Play tv.
But if you like the V1 - and it does, what you expect from a (Bang & Olufsen) tv - there is a very good reason to buy it soon: you can expect to get it at a reasonable price!
Like anything that's going to be discontinued - it's price that's key. If you can get a deal, and you're happy with it, then it's a good deal. Enjoy!
The V1 is a great TV. Some people love the design, some people hate it - but at the end of the day it has a superb PQ, great sound - and all the features of the latest smart TV's.
We all demanded the pin-sharp B&O picture quality, great motion handling, superb B&O sound, all the latest features, yet a low price. B&O gave that to us in the V1 - and we turned our noses up!! Sometimes Struer just can't win......
I love the V1. It's one of the most 'under the radar' TV's B&O have ever made. You'll miss it when it's gone.

The V1 is very much a B&O tv, because the design is innovative and daring.
Much more a B&O tv than the BV11, which (from a design point of view) is almost just a copy of the BV10.
I fully understand, why the BV11 was created/designed that way - the guys in Struer know that most of their costumers have a very conservative taste!
For me part of what B&O is, is to dare to make their own things in a new way (maybe never seen before)/to be innovative.
In this sense the V1 will become a tv, that we will miss.
Looking forward, I hope that B&O will stay innovative and create their own stuff - without being influenzed too much by 'common taste'.
So....I can't wait to see their next tv 😀
It lasted 3 full years in the portfolio without a change. Must be an incredible TV !

It's very disappointing to hear that the V1 is going to be discontinued, AND with no replacement mooted within the 'Play' Portfolio.
I agree with all of Lee's remarks about the stunning PQ and sound of the V1 - my V1-40 will be three years old in July/August, and has given me hours and hours of pleasure.
Unlike other TV's I've owned, the aesthetics have not only grown on me, but endured in interest re an object in the room, which is not something I can say about many consumer goods. And despite the naysayers re the aesthetics, it was certainly judged more than good enough to win a Red Spot design award.
But really, the value for money proposition was off the scale when viewed (and priced) as a separate monitor, active centre channel speaker system, and state of the art AV processor.
In terms of PQ I preferred it to the then top of the line Sony Bravia LED TV, and Panasonic plasma to which I compared it, mainly because I felt, and still feel, that the PQ is exceptionally authentic in it's colour balance and overall PQ vis a vis real life.
The other main point that attracted me was that the price (and exceptional value for money) enabled me to enter the world of B&O, where speakers change far less often than TV's, thus the saving on the TV enabled me to budget for B&O speakers then second only to B&O's top of the line Lab 5's.
I've been told by my dealer that the reason for discontinuation is the lack of availability of panels in 40" size to B&O's requirements.
IMHO it would be a sad mistake by B&O to not release another 'Play' TV with perhaps a 46" or 50" panel size, and thus allow B&O aficionados and those contemplating a step into the B&O world, a compelling entry point into an B&O AV system.
Needless to say, even if I 'upgrade' to a larger screen B&O TV down the track, I will NOT be parting with my V1-40.. it really is quite exceptional.. :-)
Kind regards
John..
i was definitely a naysayer, the design still hasn't grown on me i could never get over the hinges and found it to be to industrial looking.
I still think there were other ways of designing the v1 to a price point but with a better design in my opinion, i also think there should have been at least a 46" to 50" as a 40" is to small.
I will however agree with the sound quality the v1 sounded very good the picture to me after a few adjustments was outstanding.

Hey MM the BV11, 10, 9, 5 are based on the Mark Rothko pieces of art! To me the BV11 currently is the epitome of B&O design even though it's a Mark Rothko copy :)
As i've said before, I can not and will not believe this rumour that B&O kind find 40" panels. LG, Samsung, SONY & Panasonic ALL make 4K panels in todays market.
For me, 40" is the ABSOLUTE maximum size that I could possibly accept. There are many people out there that do not like large screens.
panasonic don't make panels they use lg IPS and this year in the uk they will be use VA panels in there tvs. lg as we know use there IPS panels in there tvs, samsung still make panels but also use AUO panels in there range to.
not many brands make panels anymore.
Paul W:For me, 40" is the ABSOLUTE maximum size that I could possibly accept. There are many people out there that do not like large screens.
Perhaps, but if they aren't actually buying those smaller screens, they will be eventually removed from the portfolio. Most of those who need 24" or 32" TVs will be shopping for the 200 euro price point, which isn't exactly where B&O aims to be.

Sony don't make panels either.

Hmmm...well, I'm sure you tell yourself that women also don't want, well, you know.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
In the US/Canada nobody buys under 50" screens anymore. I have mine for about 4 yrs now and though it looked embarrassingly huge then, it feels rather modest now.
Like tournedos says : Smaller screen are only sold on pricing, not on quality. I don't think the V1 got that much tracking over here. However personally I think the decision was made because the required screen panels will no longer be available (from whomever makes them) and minimum production quantities to have them available are too much for B&O alone to handle.
My mother bought a V1 40 and so did I. We are both very satisfied with them. I would not want a bigger panel than 40. I might as well put up a movie-projetor instead if I wanted a bigger movie experience. The screen is easy to hide and so are the projector.
Chris Townsend: I get the feeling that it isn't a lack of 40 INCH panels, but a lack of somebody to make specific panels unique to B&Os V1.

Sorry guys but I have simple question: who made he panels build in V1?
Is it Samsung panel?
Vintage Bang & Olufsen
I'm sure the V1 used a samsung VA panel made to b&0 specs. LG panels IPS tend to give generous and wider viewing angles but tend to have weak black levels, VA panels tend to have a deeper black level and constrast but suffer when watching of axis.

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
There has been used different panels in the 'life of the V1's'.
If I remember well - 4 different panels was mentioned in another thread.
I don't know which ones - I guess the Hannspree was in the first ones.
Don't forget - there are two sizes, and it might be different from thee 32" to the 40".
In my view a small tv (even a 32") is perfect as a second or third tv - which (of course) has to be a B&O NL-tv.
For some even 40" is enough as a main tv - but people definitely tend to want bigger tv's as their main tv.
My main-tv is 40" - a 55" would fit into that room, but not anything bigger!
Different people, different rooms and different needs - I vote for keeping a 40" tv in the portfolio of B&O.

Chris Townsend: By the way, my bottom of the range non B&O has 2 HVEC tuners, and therefore so should the Avant. Puts not expensive ground breaking technology.

I am not aware of any HEVC capable tv tuner - could you specify your ('bottom range) tv'?
And - apart from some testing - I am not aware of any brodcasting in the HEVC format.
The specs were finished only last year (in Juli) - the concept for hardware and the start of production of the BV Avant was much earlier.
'HEVC Codec - 4K 30P (USB and Internet Streaming Only)'
No HEVC-tuner!
And - just like the Avant - support for HDCP 2.2 on one HDMI-port.
Might be different for different markets!

We still don't know what is coming next ;-)
Millemissen: We still don't know what is coming next ;-) MM
It won't be too long. I think they've been having issues sourcing a panel which is up to the required B&O standards at a price we won't all moan about paying.
