NERD ALERT NERD ALERT

Ok, so i've been thinking about the BS Moment and that's no BS and how twice now I have gone to play with it in the store and twice now it wasn't fully operational and have sort of come to the conclusion that perhaps the BS Essence is more for me.

I would prefer the elegance of the Moment however I'm not sure if I care about Pattern Play or the Mood Wheel, perhaps I'd just like to play my collection and actually turn a physical dial, so i thought of mocking up something over a glass of Devils Devil Lair which would be a backyard project of sorts that could incorporate the ipad mini and the BS Essence.

I also attach a photo of my nerdness to show you what i was thinking

The photo from Lee the other day which showed the ipad cover and thought that it could be some-what furthered into incorprating an essence?

The essence is obviously hideway... so here goes lol

looks good - yes the cover would be ideal and sit it on a top of a wooden sloping base and away you go.

Does anyone know if there is a wooden base that would look cool with an iPad sloping on it? I wanted one for what will be my media room and am going to use my old iPad 2 for streaming

One question : what was wrong with the Moment in the store ?

You say you only whant music from your library, Moment was impossible to do that ? (Ok, that's two questions !).

In a short summary:

First time the interface was laggy and only played songs for not long (which was confirmed because of the "non" subscription" and when you pressed play and pause it would take ages to respond

Second time couldn't connect to the NAS "because their internet was down" .  After 15 minutes i gave up.

Not necessarily that I want music solely from my library i'm happy with streaming services but i'm not sure if i need pattern play or mood wheel for this.

I like such projects!

i am a bit like you - I don't care much for MoodWheeling and being nursed from the PatternPlay.

I am a dedicated 'search guy'!

Do I understand it right?

You want to make this as a non-portable unit - for standing on a desk?

One of the great things of the Moment is, that you can take the Jukebox with you to your favourite chair or you can just leave it either side up on the SoundHeart as a stationary device.

Placing it there means charging without messing with cables - which is quite important.

Carrying around a combo of an iPad Mini and a 'wheely' in a homemade cover/case seems to me a bit ackward - and how should the backside look like? How about charging??

Maybe you are trying 'too hard' to mimic the 'original'??

I'd rather think of:

a plain iPad Mini (in Kiosk Mode with the BeoMusic app) - to carry around

and the Essence (hidden away, for sure)

an ir-eye connected to it (there will be further improvement using the ir-eye...), placed where it is best for accessing in daily life

and a good old Beo remote (or the Remote One) for easy-access-controlling

I am not sure I would want the 'wheely' - but that is a personal choice.

and of course a nice docking/charching station for the iPad will be needed - for overnight.

The iPad Mini is easy to carry around and - in Kiosk Mode - it can't be 'mis-used'.

With the 'multi-room' capacities of the Essence, I'd connect it to the tv (means use the speakers of the tv) - and this way you have the remote laying around anyway.

Looking forward to other ideas/thoughts - 'nerdy thoughts' ;-)

That is a sad story.

Seems that this dealer is not interested in selling the BS Moment!!!

As you may have read from byuers/users of the device, it actually works as intended.

I'd avoid this dealer in the future.

I'd avoid this dealer in the future.

All the Australian "dealers" used to be owned in at least the 2000s by a conglomerate.

The B&O bought them back so the "dealers" we're all corporate stores.

The recently this year B&O sold the "dealers" to a luxury chain.

This transition is now being bedded down.

Many of the staff at the "dealers" have lived through these gyrations.

In Melbourne there are three "dealers" and many Beoworlders here treat equally with all three.

Some of the staff float between the three "dealers".

And each "dealer" has their own strengths based on the knowledge and experience of the staff -- and the store's location.

So simply put, one can't "avoid this dealer in the future" -- and in any case since I for one have known some of the long term staff since at least 2004 I'm not sure I want to.

In fact until recently one staff member was the salesman who serviced me in 1985.

( I would hate to think how many times over these past four decades his "owner" and management had changed )

MM it was more to be on my little side table where my encore used to be and easily controllable from my chair that's next to it

I could easily just use an iPad on the couch but I don't really 'couch' I like using 'something'. Otherwise I'd just use my iPad with PM. I do love however the essence wheel.

Even Miele have gone back to buttons over navitronic. But I like turning a volume knob. Each to their own.

As elephant says each dealer in Melbourne really isn't independent. They are sort or rotating and where I first tried the Essence was at dealer 1. I bought my avant at dealer 2 and bought my lab 19 at dealer 1. I won't be going back to dealer 2 anytime soon as the other day when I went to try the moment for the second time the manager said to me "look Michael I can't stop" (after spending $15k) and that's when I had serious questions about the moment and then was asking the new sales assistant questions and I couldn't understand her at all (language barrier) so I'll decide to default to the other dealer instead and if I do purchase lab 20s (by the time I can afford them they'll be lab 40s) I know where to go.

But that being said it's not to be a flame war on the dealer, this is just a little Diddy I drew up as a product that would potentially suit my needs as a place to come to to play music and have an additional controller in my other room on the wall to play when I need.

Not that I even have an essence Sad[:\'(]

Means a 'stationary design'!

Looking forward to see it progressing.

Maybe someone else has some ideas for it too.

Michael,

If you are like me, and it seems you are ie want the most simple way to listen to music, I think you should have a go at the Moment.

Personaly I don't have it yet (connected to a pair of Lab 18's) because Madame wants to move for a bigger house and every € I manage to have (a few exceptions appart) goes in that project.

I suppose you don't have to use the mood wheel or whatever just to enjoy music. I would get a Deezer account (instead of my Spotify account) and listen to the radio. Voilà. It's nice that you can sometimes walk with the pad or just leave the wood part on.

I also suppose that if internet is not working you can stick a hdd on it, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think the Moment is fairly priced, but maybe I'm wrong too.

I am bot so sure - he is more into hardware-tweaking. This is a bit different.

But who knows - maybe?

Why don't you use a Gramofon into the line-in on your Beovision instead?

That way you can use your existing speaker and sub. The Essence requires its own speakers.

You would loose the wheel, but I think you will be using the iPad anyways.

Just a thought.

@BeoGreg

Sure you don't have to use the 'wheels'.

But for someone, who mainly is into searching for what he want to hear, it is a bit odd to have to swipe the main screen away to get to the search option.

The BS Moment is perfect for a lot of costumers - especially for those, who just want to listen to music they like.

But it is not for everyone - those, who want to be in charge/want to dig deep in their own collection etc aren't, what the makers focused on.

I like it - because of the integration with the B&O NL. I did not buy it - but you should never say no!

After all searching is possible (and you can always use the BeoMusic app) - if 'madame' is more into 'MoodMusic', it might be a good compromise ;-))

And - no you can't connect a HD to it!

With the Gramofon you are locked to Spotify (Connect) - and you have to use another app for listening to internet radio (TuneIN), and yet another for having access to the local music (on the device).

AND - you can connect the Moment in exact the same way as you do with the Gramofon.

Using a NL-based BV is - of course - the best way to go.

Hi BG, as i don't have the Essence yet, i am umming and arghghging over what i should do.  I am watching with interest the next major software update for the moment.

I don't think the use of a NAS is Internet dependent: it's network dependent - so i was taking that with a grain of salt.

I have used Deezer on the iMac and thought it was a good interface - but that was find and play (search).

The moment is fairly priced in comparison to the BS5 and the Encore as well

I'm still interested in the project if i ever get it off the ground and have been thinking what would my stand be made of :-)

Thinking of Michael building project I realised what could be a hit (at least for me !).

Simple : a Beosound 5 with integrated electronics in base (no separate box) that plays every kind of source (usb, ethernet, cd rip...) with a detachable touch screen (could be the Moment one).

You get the touch screen and the wheel experience all in one. Easy.

Speaking again of the Moment it should have an other interface without mood wheel and with easy search fonction, more classical.

Hi "Crazy" guy here.

True I am hacking some existing B&O stuff, but I also make new concepts as part of my day job. Fire away any questions you may have. I do lots of stuff with iOS + hardware.

From what I gather, you want to make a mount for an iPad, have some physical controls and make it look nice?

What about an iPad 2 or 3 in a Beoplay A3. That is a pretty nice stand. Lies nice in all directions :)
