Hello,

 

I have to change both the top of my serious speakers BeoLab 6000 .

 

I received two new B & O but it is stated that we must adjust the level with a low frequency oscillator .

 

Is this approach is mandatory and what is the risk if it is not realized ?

Is this easy to do ?

Hey there,

I've done that to my Beolab 6000 some time ago. I did recalibrate the speakers as mentioned in the instructions.

To answer your question, no, you do not need to recalibrate the speaker. HOWEVER, this means your speaker will either underperform or overperform in bass, without the proper adjustment.

Calibrating is quite easy.

I don't have my notes in front of me, but you should be able to just do the following:

Things you will need

1. Allen Keys
2. Signal Generator (or digital file of the correct signal frequency)
3. Volt/Ohm Meter
4. Very thin flat head screwdriver (to adjust pot... has to be quite thin since the slot is so small)

Process

• Disconnect/remove all drivers (very important, as you will be sending a rather loud signal through the speaker while adjusting it)
• Connect a volt/ohm meter to the bottom woofer driver leads (i think it's the bottom one, but the instructions will say). Make sure the meter is set to the correct unit of measurements (and that it can measure to the correct number of units - I think it's 0.00).
• Connect speaker to a signal generator that is set to the proper frequency and power output (again, i forget, but the instructions will say what they need to be)
• While the signal generator is going, turn the pot accordingly until the reading shows what the instructions said you should adjust it to (make sure you adjust the correct pot. There are two, but the instructions have a diagram pointing to which one you turn)
• After that, you're done!
