I have three 8002s and have taken one apart before.  But I have never replace a belt on it.

I was wondering if the drive shaft needs to be popped off the remove the belt?  Or maybe it can be sort of snaked through that sensor end.

The threaded shaft ends in a 4-winged interrupter, that goes in between the opto elements.
Rotate the threaded shaft so that an opening of the opto interrupter is upwards.
Unlatch the opto board (small latch at one side) and pull (slide) it upwards.
The lower opto element will then pass through the opening in the interrupter and the small board will
swing aside in its cable.
