From Forbes:

Looks like so many online services; whether you subscribe or use a free version, they are after your data.... and much much more data than needed for the service.

Not good - but will the other services do different?

MM

Another good reason to use webradio and buy CD's!

on one hand we attack governments for harvesting our private information and on the other we freely give it to such companies as Facebook, Google and now Spotify.

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

And a little bit later:

It's anybody's guess whether this really was the original intention, or just an emergency measure after the s*itstorm hit.

I find with such disruptive companies they push and push boundaries continuously then back pedal when they encounter public back lash .....

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

The real worry is that all these companies actually take the data even if you tick the decline boxes. They aggregate the information anonymously, which seems OK. However, your data is sitting there waiting to be hacked or taken by some rogue employee or government agency. Windows 10 conditions allow absolutely everything done on your PC to be recorded remotely.

In the UK ISP 'TalkTalk' have just emailed their customers saying that their systems have been hacked and that they are very sorry but personal data including bank details may have been stolen. They collect your data, but when it is misused they seem to take no responsibility....  it's between you and the unknown thief who did the hacking.

Add up all the data you've supplied to all those companies you have subscribed to (with permission for third party sharing etc) and you realise that 'Big Brother' is here, and we all willingly invited him in!

More and more I've come to the conclusion Orwell and Huxley were optimists. Spotify doesn't hold a candle to Google in terms of abuse though, Google's motto should be "Don't be evil, that's our job!"

NSA = New Spotify Account

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

If you have an android phone, run battery doctor. Amongst other things it shows what secret programmes are running in the background selling all your personal data. My sons phone had 23 running in the background.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Catch 22. To download Battery Doctor you have to agree to Google's terms and conditions and also allow access to all your files.
