Hi,
I've been trying to trouble shoot my BeoGram 3300 with out luck so far.....It's running an MMC4 and all seems fine with that after doing the 180 flip around trick.
Problem I have is the left channel is almost non-existent!! I've done some multi-meter test and the results are one puzzling me but two, I don't really know what they should be!
I'm getting a reading (closed circuit) from the red+ (right channel) from the muting switch to the right pin & both right & left outers. Where as I'm getting only a reading from the white (left channel) to the left pin only.
This really dosen't seem correct to me, does anybody know what or which way round is correct, to me the reading can't be right.....
Thanks in advance. Ross.
Hi Ross,
the best way to check the resistance is in play position. Each channel should read about 750 ohms from red or white do shield. That's because of the muting switch, which shorts the signal, when not playing or rather the tonearm is lifted, because the switch is coupled to the lift mechanism. The point of initiation of the switch can be adjusted. Do you still have a DIN-plug attached?
Chris
btw: the 180° trick leads to no solution, because the same coils have contact to the same wire (L or R) but the other way round. The cartridge should be plugged in at 90°. The pins horizontally give out the right channel, the left by the vertical.

You say in 180° position, both channels have (separate!) signals and in normal direction only the right?
Hi, Thanks for the info.....
I've bypassed the mute switch to see if that was the problem so thats no longer in the system......and when I do the 180 flip the channels stay the same, i.e. the right channel works and the left channel is still dead.

Yes, the 180° flip changes + to GND of the pick-up and verse visa, the channels themselves stays the same. You must turn only 90° to change the channels.
wahey......now I've sussed it, thanks people........me being an idiot and getting the cartridge test wrong had sent me all over the place looking for a problem which was always in the cartridge!!!..
I've just flipped the 90 degree and the cartridge is stuffed.....the channel changes when I move the cartridge around 90........
So, from what I've read these cartridges are not repairable is that true?
sadly but true, only the needle can be replaced but electrical faults are not repairable.
