Hi

Having ( Yet again !! ) just missed out on getting a 6000, due to my faffing around, I thought I'd ask here.

Yes, I know it's an extremely long shot, but you never know someone might just be thinking of moving one on.

Now, I'm happy to pay a sensible price for a Good / Good condition unit, but I'm not wanting to pay stupid prices, and it must be fully working and have a remote, or at least easily fixed.

Anyway, here's hoping someone out there may contact me.

Thanks for looking

I'd try member 'Leslie' who is no longer active here but has a facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/vintagebeo?fref=nf

I've bought from him in the past and his service, costs and quality was superb (all black BM7000 complete system and black BL4000 speakers).  I know he has lots of the BM6000 remotes and I suspect the BM6000 itself.

Dave.

Hi,

There are few of  them on Ebay at the moment. One nice specimen in Germany has also a nice price… But I would not say "stupid price"...
I want to share my experience about the price and “fully working one” Beomaster 6000 Quadro.

In the last years I collected 4 of them, one for the parts and 3 nice devices but all 4 with technical problems. I have waited long for friend of mine, Robert who are repairing all my B&O-stuff, to find time for those 4 BM’s. Finally he took them to the *** in April this year and repaired all 4, even the fourth one, which was actually planed only for parts because of his bad optical condition.

I can repeat what he said: those devices are really very, very sophisticated and difficult to work on. We read lot about the standard problems and week points of this beautiful device. The biggest problem is probably the construction of it. On the very reduced place in it, one of the very best engineered electronic was placed. And unfortunately there are lot of week components build in which are after many years very often broken or on the end of their live. We heard from an old B&O-retiree, who gave us plenty of very useful tips and advices during those reparations, that by B&O technicians this device was called “Tantal-cemetery”. Probably not without reason … One more example: the last B&O official service place in Vienna does not take those device for reparation anymore. Not because they do not know how to do it but because they know, that there is no end of reparation… And nobody is ready to pay for complete restoration, which is really costly…

I think on those 4 Beomasters we have seen all possible problems and weakness of this model. And I can say, they are plenty of!

That being said I think the only one Beomaster 6000 Quadro, which can satisfied you, is the complete restored one! You can be lucky and buy nice and working one but it is always something, what will go wrong with this device. And it will take no long, few weeks or few months and you will have to look in.

Complete restoration have to be done by experienced technician who saw and have had plenty of them on his workbench. And it costs…

Facit: If you have time (and luck) you can end up with nice Beomaster 6000 for 200-250€ (or even less) but if it is not fully restored, you will probably have to invest double or triple in the next months/years. Of course it applies general to vintage devices but it is extremely true for Beomaster 6000 Quadro…

I would try to contact Martin (dillen) or Frede (classic) here on Beoworld. Speak to them and try to arrange the restoration by one of them. It would be of course not the cheapest Beomaster but only in this case you could enjoy it for many, many years…

There are for sure other experiences from other Beoworlders with different stories about BM6000. It would be nice to hear them to.
This was mine…

Regards,
Igor

If you want to get the 6000 quad longing out of your system, you can borrow mine for a while. We all go through this phase but at the end of the day, there are better sounding B&O systems and the quad format simply was not that great - SQ records are not very effective and CD4, though a lot better, are prone to wear. I don't have a Beogram 6000 anymore - I gave the CD4 decoder to Tim - but I do have the remote though it will need a new battery - not used the system for a while but if you are interested, I will dig it out and see if it works! Tim Jarman fixed it a number of years ago.

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to reply.

Dave, I did speak to Leslie, so thank you for that, I didn't realise he'd left the forum.

It's extremely interesting hearing what others think of this Unit/ System; I have to be honest, I never realised that it was such a "Fragile ?" unit, I just presumed that being B&O, it would have been fairly bomb proof, but it seems that's not the case.

As a matter of interest, is it a case of all vintage Quadraphonic systems being not very good ?, as I do collect quite a bit of Pioneer equipment and have also been looking at their QX-949a system.

I do own quite a bit of B&O, so I think I may take a rethink, ( And do some serious research ) as to whether Quad is worth owning, considering the amounts these receivers are starting to command these days.

I'd be interested to hear what others think on the whole 70's Quad system.

But I do seriously appreciate the input that you guys have put in on answering this post.

Hi,
Sorry, it was not my intention to destroy your dream of Beomaster (Beosystem) 6000. I just wanted to say that those beasts are more delicate and fairly sophisticated as other B&O stuff. Some would say “overengineered”…
Nevertheless I would not give up. If you found a good one (possibly restored one) you will enjoy it much, very much. And you will laugh every time you throw a look over, be sure Wink
I agree with peter that there are maybe few better sounding B&O systems but in my opinion there is no better looking B&O receiver / system. Of course it is matter of taste…
And if restored, this receiver sounds also good, very good.

Just look to these pictures and say that you does not want something like this Smile

Looks are stunning - the prototype at Struer is even nicer! They sound Ok but the 4400 is a lot better. Interestingly, the 3400 also sounds better - compared the two - not a lot in it - amplifiers to me make the least difference - but the 3400 has more controlled bass.

The solution seems to be a rebuild: 2 pcs, 4400 donate 4 pcs amplifier.....

Not enough room. What would probably be the best idea is to have a separate power amplifier or powered speakers.....
