BeoBoy68: When a new Bang & Olufsen turntable ?! Is someone in Struer who can hear ?
Duels:Are B&O's customers asking for a new turntable in sufficient numbers to justify economic production?
As I understand it B&O lost or destroyed all the blueprints for the MMC series of cartridges, so what's to say they haven't done the same with the turntable designs :-(
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
There's probably a company in China that are already doing B&O copies of turntables.
It would be so risky for B&O to launch one though - it would cost them and indeed you a fortune and the problem is, you've got the British true turntable manufacturers REGA and Linn with their Sondek releasing perfect decks!
The Technics was a completely different market. It is bomb proof. It started the scratching and hip hop scene in 1973 when a DJ in NYC added the beats from two identical records together to create a continuous beat. And so disco, hip hop and today's music was born! Plus of course, these work with Serato DJ software from a MacBook Pro using special pressed records. Super clever!
I think this is really cool and there are probably many B&O fans who would love this turntable. However notice there is no tonearm or cartridge. I'll bet the complete setup will be at least €3000 or more. If there were a B&O turntable like this, how would it be connected to an NL system?
We've been seeing a return lately of products once thought obsolete and dated. Larger headphones have returned. Also, B&O has brought back a new generation of portable music players akin to the "boombox." B&O has brought back the wood veneers. I think a new generation of turntables would be great. Imagine what could be done by adding new technological innovations to the turntable. We could have control via NetLink and control from our smartphones. Perhaps we could not merely move the tonearm but even move it to the exact position for certain tracks. We could incorporate Shazam music recognition so that we would know which tracks are on the record in order to move the tonearm to a specific track.
