I have an old Beogram 2200 turntable which I want to start using again.  It seems to be in good working order and I have played it through a pair of Bose Lifestyle II active speakers.  Although sound comes through the speakers, I can’t regulate the volume as they do not have a volume control.  Could I use a device such as a Fostex PC1ex volume controller for changing the volume, or do I need a separate amplification device?  I have contacted Bose and also my local Bang & Olufsen dealer but no-one seems to have a solution to my problem!

You really need a pre-amp with a RIAA built in. This way you will get a flat output from the record player and the ability to change the volume.

Hi Peter.  Thanks for your reply and I hope you'll pardon my technological ignorance, but what is an RIAA?

Thanks Dave.  Now if anyone can suggest any such products (at the lower end of the budget range) I'd be really grateful.  Google doesn't seem to be providing any answers!

Or these ship internationally, unlike the previous Amazon link:
