Hi eweryone - Im new here so forgive med if i make a few  dresscodes errors

I have problems with a Beogram CD 4500 type 5171

the CDi spinning for a few seconds when i press play, thes stops -

guess it needs a new CD drive? or is there a fix?

The lense is clean, and moves freely.

my tools are limited  to a solder iron and a multimeter.

This sounds like the C2103 capacitor problem... Try a search on this forum.

try  to contact Dillen (Martin) on this forum, he can supply you with a new kit that changes 6 capacitors on the servo board. It is quite easy to fix. It could be other things, but I would start here...

I requires that you opens the unit, very easy..

1: open the lid, and above each hinge, there is a small hole you can push a flathead screwdriver into, this unlocks the hinge at each side, and the lid can be pulled upwards

2: under the glass panel to the right, is a small hole. Push a small screwdriver into this, and press up. The. You can slide the glass to the right.

3: theire are 3 screws at the back, (not the 2 right beside the cooling grill). Remove those, and also 3 screw located at the front, under the removed glass panel. Then you can lift the whole plastic front off, and the servo board is the big top board just to the left of the cd drive.

Then just get your solder iron out :) I recommend to cut the egs of the existing capacitor, then they are easier to de-solder.

Don't be tempted to change the laser current if you read about that, unless you really know what you are doing. It is most likely the capacitors.

Thanks a lot - I cleaned it up once more, and magic happend. It does play now, not everytime, but it seems that it only needs tro warm up a little, then its playing. Which in my world could link to the capacitor issue mentioned.

I would like to know which caps to replace, and buy the locally - anyone with a recipie??? Or just the right component numbers and maybe values

Member Dillen (Martin Olsen) is in Denmark so suggest you "start a conversation" with him and he will supply you with a cap kit for this repair.
