If you could choose a piece of Bang & Olufsen to take back to the future from 1955 to 1985 and something from 1985 to 2015 what would it be and how do you think you would explain to younger person today what a VHS is???

Actually, I think the date they returned to in the movie was/is today.
October 21st 2015

Movie 1 went back to 1955 and Marty was trying to get back to 1985. Then in the second movie they jumped forward to today's date and the 1985 Marty could see himself 30years on married with two kids and a multi screen TV in his front room. I like how concepts in scifi movies can become reality.

I think the ultimate 1984 - 85 system would have to be the 5000 series and those dinky CX50s which like a lot of speakers remain timeless. TVs haven't of course aged so well because of CRT screens.

1990s would have to be the Ouverture with BeoLab 6000s.

Ultimate turntable would have to be the Technics SL1210 because it really did start the scratching/hip hop scene which is the DNA to so many music genres and culture of the modern world.

I'd also chose a ghetto blaster to represent the early 80s :)

I always thought there was something "back to the future-esque" with this set: the beolab 8000 system and the Delorean were released approximately at the same time and the cdx was released at the same time of the 1st movie. And all of this still look futuristic and awesome, even in 2015...

Beosystem 4500 with the wall bracket,

Even if 'only' 25 years old my BeoSystem 4500 (now without the tape deck, but with a Playmaker) serves me well every day.

It is neither past nor future - it is present!

I have the same system and couldn't agree more. What speakers are you using?

You guys know me, I'm very "to each his own" and rarely criticize someone's opinion.

However, EVERYONE IS WRONG on this one.

What would you take from 1985 to 2015?

EVERY MMC1, MMC2, MMC3, MMC4, AND MMC5 YOU COULD GET YOUR HANDS ON!!!!!

Whether you kept them for yourself or sold them on Ebay, you're now set for life.

These are Paradigm Monitor 7. Sounds great for my need plus they have a minimal look. (The casing seems to be vennered with wood, but unfortunately it's not...)

@rich

Getting all MMC1-5 PLUS all MMCE, EN and CL. I think they were still produced as replacement in 1985!

That would be a clever move indeed...

I remember buying an MMC4 in 1986 for $80.  Why didn't I buy 2?  Oh, yeah, and thinking $250 for an MMC2 was expensive.
