hi,

I have a Beovosion MX 5000  in fully working condition and  i would like  to keep it in service for another 5-10 years.

I would appreciate any advice for restoration of this wonderful TV. What would be the steps?

1)  vacuum the dust

2) clean all potentiometers

3) start replacing electrolytic capacitors starting with the Power Supply?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Hi,

Save yourself the trouble and lookout for a cheap upgrade to an MX8000.  I have bought 2 in the past year for under 100 euros each and one even came with a mint Beolink 5000 Smile

The picture and sound quality of an MX8000 should be far higher than the MX5000.

hi,

Thanks for tip. However, I have never seen one for sale in Canada since I started to collect B&O( 2001).

I will check to see if they ever sold them in North America...

Thanks

Good evening,

I have also a working North American MX 5000 (used in a bedroom) and I did replace many capacitors in it about 10 years ago. I have written a repair guide and it should be on the service manual repository on Beoworld.

Basically, the job is to replace all capacitors branded Rubycon (many black and one blue) as they leak and stop working. If your set is still working, perhaps it has been serviced before or came from a batch where Rubycon caps where not used.

The only MX series TVs released in North America by B&O were the 5000 and 5500. After that, there was a gap of about 7 years where B&O didn't have any TVs available for that market.

This is slightly off-topic, but if you operate your MX 5000 with a Beolink 1000, always periodically check if the batteries are not leaking inside the remote even if it is still working. I had to dismantle and clean my remote this week because of this.

Good luck,

Jean

Actually I have a rule that I follow all the time: I do not use any regular batteries.

I always use Rechargeable ones as there is no danger for leaking!
