Hello!

I need your expert advise.. Im lost in the BO world...

I have a Rega Planar 3 turntable with Rega Elys MMC and i need to connect it to a Beosound 9000, i used to have it connected on my Rotel BX4 amp, now i am a proud and happy owner of a Beosound 9000 :)

As i understand i need a phono preamp, so i am going to connect the Rega Planar RCA's output on RCA's input on the preamp and i need a cable with RCA's (male) to connect to the preamp output and 7 DIN plug to connect on the AUX of the Beosound 9000, is this correct? Is this the way?

Thank you in advance!

Hello Graeme,

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know if i need something more? The preamp and the cable are enough?

Regards

António

The preamp and the cable will be all you'll need.

Thank you for your reply, Lee.

I read that i can use the 5 DIN plug, the 7 DIN is only for BO equipments, the extra 2 DIN are only for communications between BO equipments, is this correct?

Regards

António

Your welcome,

Yes that's correct... just use a standard 5 pin DIN, the two extra pins are for datalink connectivity and you wont be needing that unless you get a Beogram.

Regards,

Lee

And if you want an excellent phono pre-amp, the Sutherland 20/20 is excellent.

at $2,200 it should be.  i could never envisage paying that for a pre-amp alone.  i'd be lynched by the family if I did.

I completely agree Dave. Looks way overpriced to me and contains a lot of snake oil.

It looks neat, stylish and is probably hand made.  I'm sure it's a wonderful piece of kit but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for it.  I could buy a complete 7000 system two times over for that!

Dave.

It is small portion of what I spent for the rest of my system and it is very complementary. But yes I also had sticker shock when I first started researching hifi pre-amps - just like when i first bought B&O. My speakers have lasted 16 years and still sound great, so i just look at it as a very long term investment, and to my ears the quality is there. But I agree it does not make sense to spend more on a pre-amp then the turntable itself.

Now in terms of snake oil, I reserve that for interconnect cables that cost thousands of dollars. That is an entire world of absurdity that we are fortunate not to have to deal with for B&O.
