I have a Beogram 1800 set where the turntable functions correctly. Even though the arm is loose and I can see some wiring sticking out and the balancer doesn't fit in and its not stable, once it gets on the record, it seems to work. However, I don't get any sound. I bought a converter to RCA and plugged it into the amplifier.

How should I test on what piece is not functioning correctly? I tried scratching the needle on the MM5 but no sound at all.

Is this question too open ended? I really want to get this turntable working.
