Dear B&O professionals :)

I've some issues in my NL/ML network. I'm going to try to explain as much as I can and hopefully I'll get some helpful inputs back.

Installation:
- BeoVision Avant 55, connected via NL to the router/switch
- BeoLink Gateway, connected via NL to the router/switch
- NL/ML Converter (without speakers!), connected via NL to the router/switch and via ML to a BeoLab 3500
- BeoLab 3500, connected via ML to the NL/ML Converter
- MasterLink Power Box between BL3500 and NL/ML Converter (this box is a new B&O product to deliver power to the ML to get rid of an "real" audio master

Problem:
First of all, I installed all the devices to have a alarm clock in de morning in both rooms. I know, it's an expensive installation (BLGW and NL/ML Converter) just to have an alarm clock, but that's unfortunately the only way to programm weekly alarm clocks like in an old ML setup...
I can currently use my BL3500 with the sources of the BV Avant and it works fine so far but I'm not able to program an alarm clock for the devices. There's is not BL3500 visible in the BLGW, and I don't know why.

Questions:
- If I progam an alarm clock, I can now tell the BLGW to switch on Netradio on the Avant and the NL/ML Converter to use the source of the avant. I actually thought the BL 3500 will turn on automatically (timer is on) because the Converter sends a trigger (as the old ML audio master did). But the BL3500 doesn't turn on. Why?
- Do I have to connect the BL3500 directly to the BLGW as well? (Let's say install a junction box next to the BL3500, then connect the ML side of the BLGW to the juction box additionally to the BL 3500 --> NL/ML Conv. connection? Is that the way to see the BL 3500 in the BLGW resources?
- If I eventually can see the BL 3500 in the resources of the Gateway, do I have to set the alarm just for Avant and BL 3500 or does the NL/ML Converter has to turn on, too?

I know, it's a bit difficult to explain, but I tried to give my best. Attached you can find a picture of the installation... and there's currently no connection between BLGW ML side to the BL3500...

Best regards and thanks for any help!

Rémy

Hi Rémy

airmax_zh:
- If I progam an alarm clock, I can now tell the BLGW to switch on Netradio on the Avant and the NL/ML Converter to use the source of the avant. I actually thought the BL 3500 will turn on automatically (timer is on) because the Converter sends a trigger (as the old ML audio master did). But the BL3500 doesn't turn on. Why?

You'd probably find that if you had speakers connected to the powerlink outputs of the NL/ML converter they would start playing at this point.

If you think of the NL/ML converter as the equivalent of a BeoSound in the masterlink part of your setup, it is then a little more obvious why the BL3500 doesn't turn on. In a conventional masterlink setup, pressing radio on the audiomaster in the main room wouldn't (and wouldn't be expected to) turn on the BL3500 in a link room.

airmax_zh:
- Do I have to connect the BL3500 directly to the BLGW as well? (Let's say install a junction box next to the BL3500, then connect the ML side of the BLGW to the juction box additionally to the BL 3500 --> NL/ML Conv. connection? Is that the way to see the BL 3500 in the BLGW resources?

Yes. Connect the masterlink from the BL3500 to both the ML/NL converter and the BLGW. Configure the NL/ML converter as audio master as you have done, and map all of the NL sources you might want to listen to on the BL3500 to suitable ML sources.

airmax_zh:
- If I eventually can see the BL 3500 in the resources of the Gateway, do I have to set the alarm just for Avant and BL 3500 or does the NL/ML Converter has to turn on, too?

If you just want the BL3500 to play, you just need to send set the alarm to trigger the BL3500. Add the Avant if you also want the speakers connected to that to turn on - you would only need to add the ML/NL converter to the alarm too if you had speakers connected directly to it by powerlink.

Hope this helps,

Martin.

Hi Martin

thank you so much for your help! I'm going to try that as soon as possible. Do you think it works with an modulation as shown in the new picture (yellow box)? I would use two y-adaptors...

Thanks and kind regards!
Rémy

Hi Martin

I'm back online... and guess what? Everything works as it should! I'm very thankful for your input, you finally solved my problem. The Gateway now sees the BL 3500 and I'm able to control it via App and Webpanel! It's just amazing. And the alarm clock works as well!

And finally: I can recommend everyone who wants so replace an old audio master and doesn't want to relinquish the alarm clock function for ALL the MasterLink devices as the BL 3500...! It's fine and fun to use!

Thanks again and best wishes from Zurich

Hi Rémy,

Glad to hear it is up and running Smile

I guess the modification was to split the masterlink cabling in order to connect it also to the BLGW (your revised drawing shows the ethernet cabling being split and joined to masterlink but this was I am sure a mistake with the drawing and not what was intended).

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin

Exactly, the revised drawing had some mistakes. Attached the final installation. The alarm clock rang this morning so everything seems to work perfectly!

Kind Regards,
Rémy
