Hi

I recently bought some second hand beolab 8000 speakers. I want to connect them by powerlink connections. What is the best amplifier from B&O for this? I dont need CD player or tuner I mainly want to play vinyl through them or separate Cd player that i already have.

Regards

Bob

Hi. Given that you already have both a CD player and record deck and presumably they are not B&O I would suggest an amp with pre outs to drive the BL8000's. I believe Marantz and Denon both make such amps that have pre outs. Not B&O I know but you connect straight to the line in on the BL's.

You don't actually need a B&O 'amplifier' for the 8000's, but perhaps just a Beomaster 6500 or 7000 may be the answer so you can connect your other equipment to it and still drive the 8000's via power link.

What make of deck and CD player do you have?

G.

Hi

Keeping it B&O, why don't you purchase a new Essence MKII for today's sources such as Deezer,Spotify and Tune in Radio and then plug a switching box into the line input for the turntable and CD player.

Thanks for reply. By switching box do you just mean a passive switch that switches one or other phonos straight to the speakers? Wasnt sure if I could plug direct from them to the speakers without pre-amp.

Thanks for reply. Deck is LINN AXIS Cd player is old phillips. tend to play more vinyl than cds. Do the 6500 and 7000 have the same 8 pin power link?

Yes - the Beomaster 6500 and 7000 are almost identical. I think the only difference is, that the 7000 has RDS - but you can only "enjoy" the RDS if you have a  Beolink 7000 remote (which is two-way), as the Beomaster does not have a display to show the text...

I agree that the Beomaster 6500 or 7000 would be a good choice but, to confirm for the OP, do they still have a proper Phono input with the correct RIAA preamplifier, as the matching Beogram 6500 and Beogram 7000 turntables both have in-built RIAA?

There's no RIAA preamp in the Phono input of the 6500/7000 Beomasters.

What he was saying is line-in (or Aux-in if you prefer) switch to lead into the Essence mk 2 that would then drive the speakers.

You would control the volume via the BeoMusic app.

And importantly once you add a wired or wireless connection you would gain access to Internet streaming services.

As well as Bluetooth or AirPlay streaming from any devices.

Below is a picture of this iPad's view of Christmas carols streaming from my mac ini playing Apple Music iTunes ... hopefully this gives you the idea of opening up the 8000 to more than just your local players.
