B&O:

v. 1.3.285.180654312 – Released 15.12.2015

- You can now set your preferred order of sound sources to start, when you “tap” the sound button on the product. This can be now configured via the BeoSetup App.

- Link/Borrow sources is now possible. This means you can "borrow" the sound sources of another BeoLink Multiroom product (e.g. TV), located in another room, even if the product is in standby. It will "silently" wake up and provide its sound to your BeoSound Essence/BeoPlay A6/BeoPlay A9. For more information see related guide.

- Bluetooth Re-connect support has been added. The product will re-establish connection to your mobile device automatically, if connection is lost. Moreover, Bluetooth connection can be also initiated by a single press of the Bluetooth button (on the BeoPlay A6 & BeoPlay A9). This feature can be enabled/disabled via the BeoSetup app. For more information see related FAQ.

- Support for the home automation BeoLink Gateway “light & control” commands have been added, when the BeoSound Essence is used with BeoRemote One, via an IR-eye.

- Fixed issue with slow loading menus/text on BeoSetup App in iOS9.

- Improved robustness of Multiroom distribution, even in networks of low quality.

I am really excited by this.

( sorry Leo )

Function for me, but more importantly this points to a common software platform !!

This should mean more rapid better quality advances across multiple multi-room devices !!!

( also points to products that may be more future proof )

You're right elephant. Looks like the Essence/A6/A9 has become an entry-level platform to introduce B&O sound concept (multiroom, NL, BeoMusic etc).

With every update, they become more and more useful and more value for money. I am so happy with my A9MkII and now also with A6.

I think this product segment is managed wonderfully in B&O. <3

How shall B&O multiroom compete with Chromecast multiroom? Some will claim to hear the difference, but if you look past "sound quality", there is no competition...

I guess there is a market for both, depending on needs, preferences and priorities.

Leo...

What do you mean:

B&O/NL superiour to Chromecast multiroom or Chromecast multiroom superiour to B&O/NL?

Normal 0 21 false false false DE-CH X-NONE X-NONE

But it's still not a NL compatible product, right?

I was just wondering if after the SW update distribution of sound to other NL Products would be possible as well. As it can be done with the Beosound Moment.

Hence, if it would be possible to run the essence without speakers connected to it, just playing the sound on any given NL Product in the same room (e.g. Beovision 11).

I guess that the B&O version is much more superior to the Google solution.

Just try to use a Chromecast device without an Internet connection: It is NOT possible and this is why I don't like these sorts of streaming products.

The B&O should simply work within a Wifi/Lan environment without Internet connection.

will the essence mk2 accept light commands from its own wheel remote in light mode when an ir receiver is connected? Or via a Beo 4 or only with a beoremote one?

The essence mk2 is a NL product, so you can do exactly as you have suggested (eg play the audio on speakers connected to a BV11).

Kind Regards,

Martin.

How does one control what is playing through the BV11 speakers only (from the Essence), without switching on the Essence's connected speakers? Wouldn't using Beomusic activate the Essence?

Hi Sal,

Reto was talking about the scenario of not having any speaker directly connected to the essence.

My understanding is that the mk2 essence can be configured to use a NL BeoVision's speakers as it's main/only speakers in the same way that the Moment can be configured to do. Perhaps I need to check this again as if this isn't the case it will prevent the setup I have in mind working and I may need to reconsider my imminent purchase of an essence mk2.

Can anyone confirm either way?

Is there a full installation manual for the essence?

Cheers,

Martin.

I can confirm that I can activate an Essence source from the BV 11. The source is mapped to the Essence MkII in another room. The music plays from the speakers on the BV11.

Unfortunately what I haven't had time to try is to see what happens when I try to control the music / select music from the Beomusic App. I fear that selecting BV11, won't do anything, as it isn't a target for Beomusic. Selecting Essence would logically activate the essence, which defeats the purpose of hearing / controlling music from the BV11 connected speakers. Unless a SW update would allow full beomusic control of a BV 11 when it is being used to play sound from another source.

Thanks Sal,

I know with the Moment you can configure it to always use the speakers of a particular NL BeoVision (in much the same way as you could with an old Masterlink BeoSound, without speakers, in A.Opt 0, in the same room as a Beovision in V.Opt 2).

In this scenario, all control inputs to the Moment are reflected in the output of the speakers connected to the Beovision (as the moment has no speakers of it's own). My understanding was, that the Essence could be configured in the same way if it didn't have it's own speakers connected directly, but I'm struggling to find any documentation that confirms this for definite.

Martin.

All my informations tell me, that this is NOT possible.

Would be nice though :-)

With all the updates constantly coming, there might still be hope, that it some day will change.

When you use the BeoRemote app, you van select the source front e.g. Essence (with the multirompsboot logo) and play iT on Your Avant. The speakers connected to the Essence, keep silent. Only the speakers connected to the Avant will play. This is how it works in my setup.

Yes of course you can do that....with the BeoRemote app.

Because you (within this app) can activate the sources of the tv - and the sources of the remote Essence 2nd gen (or at least some of these) are mapped as sources there.

It is just like using the physical remote, then.

Using the BeoMusic app is a different matter.

I'm hoping you are right, MM. The Moment and Essence are different enough that making the Essence MkII a full NL product (rather than join only) won't cannibalize the other in sales.
