In another thread someone mentioned that some BM6500 had a phono stage - I have a 5500 that is on it's last legs and a BM6500 that isn't - does anyone know if it is the same preamp and easy to take from one to the other?

Hi Andrew

The preamp-boards are different:

  • BM5500 has external Input PH, CD, TP1, TP2/AUX BM 6500 has external Input PH, CD, TP1, TP2 and TV/AUX
  • BM6500 has output to Powerlink, BM5500 has no Powerlink

I am in doubt whether your BM6500 has the RIAA Amplifier installed (Only few have this option). Easiest way to see is to open both and have a look. For the details consider an upgrade to a silver membership as both service manuals with the schematics are on beoworld.
