iv just picked up a pair of Beovox RL140 type 6501 and they don't sound very good, nowhere near as good as my Wharfedale E45's , and I don't seem to be able to get the grills of, they sound a bit distorted and just not right at all, do these speakers usually sound good or are they more of a stylistic thing with the strange shape, I wanted to get the grills off to see the drivers if the foam has disintegrated will it cause this harshness and if so then there is one huge rectangular driver I guess that wouldn't be possible to reform as there won't be any kit for it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi
The woofers would have almost certainly have perished by now which would make them sound awful. So you'd have to have them repaired. There is not huge rectangular driver in the RL140's thank goodness. So basically you have to refoam the drivers and I would also say replace the capacitors whilst you have them open.
You cannot take off the grill without undoing all the screws at the back. Undo the straps, if they are still present, undo the screws at the back and it will open and you'll be able to have a look.
I just sold my RL140's as I ran out of space but they are great speakers!
thanks BenSA , I will try refoaming them and recapping them and see if they sound better.
