I acquired a neglected Beomaster 2400.2 and went over it as completely as I am able, plugged it in (expecting the usual movie theme drum roll), the red lamp came on and then NOTHING.

Absolutely nothing worked. I pressed every button and zip. I was crestfallen. (That was a lot of work….)

OK, so an idea occurred to me and I tried the remote control and SURPRISE everything works. And OMG, the sound is incredible. Even the FM was wonderful with no antenna.

So what is wrong? None of the buttons and I mean none of them work on the Beomaster, but it responds perfectly to the remote.

What did I do wrong?

There are internal prongs that have to line up to corresponding pins underneath the buttons ,

If the lid was opened without noting this it's quite easy to reseat the lid with none of them touching , resulting in none of them making contact

Hi Jason,

I really thought I had aligned the prongs, but obviously I didn’t.

Thank you for pointing me in the correct direction. This maybe time consuming, but all in all, an easy fix.

I really appreciate your help. Smile

Pry off the front cover, you can then get in with a hook tool and then put all prongs in place, use a torch to see and locate them

I think, Soren is thinking about the bottom cover.
(The front trim won't come off that easily and there's nothing but black plastic behind it).

OK guys,

What I envision is a LOT of trial and error….. leading to frustration.

So what IS the best way to align the prongs properly?

Bottom cover off, it is then possible to get in from the front with a hook tool and place the prongs correctly

Søren Mexico:
Bottom cover off, it is then possible to get in from the front with a hook tool and place the prongs correctly

Thanks, as always Søren, we’ll give it a “go” tomorrow.

Considering the gruesome physical condition this Beomaster arrived in I was pleasantly surprised by the relative cleanliness of the interior. (In stark contrast to the Beomaster 1600.)

I was equally pleased to find all the lamps functioning, which tells us that this Beomaster was lightly used, then stored poorly for a prolonged period.

I was all but blown away by the sound quality (this I really didn’t expect) again attesting to a seldom used amplifier.

This whole affair has been an interesting and a very positive experience. I only agreed to accept a second Beomaster 2400.2 because I wanted the Beomaster 1600. (They came together)

Interesting, now that I think about it, I didn’t want my original Beomaster 2400.2 either, but it also came as a “package deal” and I really wanted the pristine Beogram 4002. Strange how things work out….. and in both cases, for the best. Big Smile

Will let you know when I get this Beomaster 2400.2 working 100%.

Thanks again for the help!

Jeff

Thank you Jason, Søren, and Martin,

The Beomaster 2400.2 is now fully functional and actually something of delight.

The adjustment didn’t proceed quite as easily as if you guys were making these adjustments, as I couldn’t find a way/tool to align the bronze forks with the upper panel in place.

Once opened up slightly, the adjustments were simple BUT I’d get 4 forks in place and 1 would slip out….. almost always the volume forks.

However with only a few additional attempts (count 4) all the controls work flawlessly.

Thank you gentlemen for making this a reality.

Thank you Søren,

This Beomaster 2400.2 turned out so much better than expected considering the “first Impression” it made coming out of the box. Meters and meters of adhesive tape on the metal surfaces and the veneers made unpacking a chore and the tape left a good deal of undesirable adhesive which took time to remove.

Much of the scaring to the aluminum was superficial and came off with repeated efforts. The same can really be said of the Plexiglas panel which was transformed with cleaner wax.

Another bonus was a good deal of the rust was surface rust….. you just have to use a lot of care to avoid removing any of the factory printing.

I know that you know the feeling after all your work is done and….. nothing works. Boy am I glad I thought to try the remote which changed the ending of this story entirely.

Then today getting all the control buttons working again and listening to the gorgeous music this Beomaster makes….. well it was definitely worth the effort.

Edith Paif? Absolutely, I am sure this Beomaster is more than worthy of “the little sparrow.”

Thanks Søren for your interest as well as your help. You restore amplifiers, I merely tinker, but in this case, tinkering was enough. Smile

Thanks Richard,

Yep, the Beomaster 2400.2 was an excellent experience and really came out well…… and yes sir, I now have two of them. Interesting, if unintended.

Spent most of the day on the Beomaster 1600, which like all such projects “reveal” more and more about themselves as you delve further into them.

All clutches are good (except wouldn’t you know it) the volume clutch. And the On/Off switch has an internal issue. I was going to take the switch apart, but decided to set it to On and see if the BM 1600 powers up. It didn’t.

Checking the fuse now, but I think I’ll call it a day.

Further updates will switch to the Beomaster 1600 thread. Thanks for your interest. and HELP!
