Hello all. Following the suggestion by @benoit in the 'New Beovision' thread I've started this.

And I'll kick it off...

I have heard a new audio system is coming which resembles a small, 1ft tall, Beolab 20. Where the top (I.e. Where the acoustic lens is) is essentially the same functionality as an Essence Remote. Don't know much more.

BeoVision Eclipse 55”, Beolab 18s, Beolab 19s, Beosound 1, Beoplay P2, H3, BeoRemote One IR, BeoRemote One BT, Beoplay S8, Beosound Essence MkII, BeoTime

A follow-up from yesterday's conversation with my dealer, then:

Two new B&O-branded (as in "not B&O Play") sound products on the way. Do not have much information about them. Both are (unsurprisingly) Beolink Multiroom enabled. Apparently one of them is in the form of an all-aluminium cone. This might be the product you have heard of, I suppose.

Also, in addition to these, the B&O Play team is supposedly working on a smaller Beolink Multiroom enabled speaker. I have been complaining to my dealer that the A6 is too big to replace my Beolit 12 in the window post on my kitchen. I need something smaller, with multi room. The ideal solution, I think, would be a new Beolit, identical in design to the 12/15. He confirmed that this was being worked on, but I didn't ask him specifically if this was a new identical Beolit or a whole new design. The only thing I know for sure is that it's B&O Play-branded, smaller than the A6, and has Beolink Multiroom.

I'd love a smaller multiroom speaker. Then it would be a real competitor to Sonos and you could throw them all over the pace (I have a friend who has Sonos speakers all over his apt in Brooklyn and it sounds incredible)! As long as the app gets a lot better! Maybe the merging of Beolink app and Beomusic app I've heard about will make a huge improvement. Confused

BeoVision Eclipse 55”, Beolab 18s, Beolab 19s, Beosound 1, Beoplay P2, H3, BeoRemote One IR, BeoRemote One BT, Beoplay S8, Beosound Essence MkII, BeoTime

Interesting topic.

I haven't heard about any new beosound.

I hope for advance on the moment.

And I know the apps are always being updated.

Unfortunately I bet they keep the Beolink and beomusic apps separated because the Beolink app gives the blgw some uniqueness.

The Beosound app is desperately in need of some love, yes. What have you heard? I haven't used the Beolink app myself. What new features could a user of the beosound app expect from that merger?

In the latest B&O 90 Years Design Book recently published (I cant get access to mine right now), there is a photo of a aluminium cone Beosound which never saw the light of day.

In concept, it looked like a cross between the control wheel of a BeoSound 5 and an Essence. No display. I wonder if this is getting re-worked?

I don't have the book so I'd love it if someone posted it here and this might whet the appetite!

This and a smaller version of the Beolab 90 and I am good to go!

Bingo!

That's the one.....but cant see the unit having a CD/DVD/BR player today?

Also cant see another circular remote outside the BeoRemote1 and Essences controller.

Whatever it is....All I hope is that it can drive my BL90's properly.

Right now the Moment does not and the most advanced B&O player that can is a 2009 Beosound 5.

Mr.10percent,

I just want to be sure that I am reading this correctly, B&O has launched a $ 90 k speaker system that can't be driven by its current " state of the art" available system ?

When you purchased the system what did they demonstrate the speakers with?

I am truly curious !

I stand to be corrected but the BS Moment does not support WMA Lossless but does FLAC and ALAC.

BS5 supports WMA lossless - which is what I would like without having to convert and re-tag 30000-odd music titles.

Demos were eventually done with various formats on an Oppo 105 (which I also have). Spotify (in particular) and Deezer (less so) do not work well with the BL90's. Seems to be a lot of noise/hiss - when played through that medium. Now that may be a whole load of investigating the ins/outs of....but to be frank, I have not got into these online sources preferring good old fashion ripping and most of my music is that way.

This is what Moment support (copied from B&O homepage):

AUDIO FORMATS

PCM (WAV) general + 88.2, 96 kHz

WMA, both VBR and CBR 20 – 320kbit (No support for WMA Lossless)

AAC (ISO and ADTS) – 320kbit

ALAC general + 88.2, 96 kHz

MP3 (all) or VBR / CBR 32 – 320kbit

FLAC, 8-96 kHz, 16 or 24 bits, 2

So, no WMA Lossless.

If I had the Beolab 90 I would certainly not feed them with "non lossless" sources such as Deezer. Would be worth while to convert your collection to e.g FLAC to be able to play them over your Moment. There are tolls out there (like Toast) that do such conversions very efficiently,

S3 size or a little bigger?

i myself would like two pyramids joined together on their side so that it is pointy at one end, and pointy at the other and therefore 2 speakers in the one enclosure

I would say the perfect size for me would be somewhere between the A6 and the A2. One other important "feature" would be "no standby light". Another requirement from wifey, since it will be in the bedroom.Stick out tongue

Yes and no SPDIF from the Moment direct to the Beolab 90's. So again if not mistken (I don't know too much about the Moment)

Current pathway for a Moment with an A/V system would have to be via network:- Moment >> Avant >> BL90

Current pathway for a Beosound with an A/V system is BS5 >> BM5 SPDif >> BL90

Those with BL5's will know this trick also.

Finally, what is the Moment if not a Spotify/Deezer duke box? Yes you can play your own media but then where is the advantage to that over a perfectly good BS5 even if you did convert to FLAC.

The answer I hope B&O conclude with is a Digital Media Player that can primarily take your own ripped/stored content as primary content (have Deezer et al functionality if you wish) which is well organised etc....like Deezer/BS5 and then pump it out to directly the DSD / XLR and SPDif.  The Lab 90s will pick this up directly and that becomes the ultimate pathway for high quality music. The new system should also pump material out via the newtowr (aala Moment to the supported B&O TV for standard distribution.

I'd rather wait for the DPL = Digital Power Link connection.

If you want a digital connection today use WiSA.

This 1000x this.

I've often wanted a system in between an Essence and the Moment, a re-imagined BS5 perhaps... I hope this new Beosound will fill the void. A system which doesn't have the moodwheel or other Moment features, but also doesn't implicitly require the use of a mobile device as the remote (yet again because of limitations of the SW of BeoMusic). A self contained system with direct, or somewhat direct access to ripped music from a personal music library, with a remote / or control panel with its own display. Even local storage would be appreciated.

Glad to hear the new system is a BeoSound rather than a Play device -- merely for fuller functionality's sake.

At the same time though, with as small as B&O is, hopefully the Moment team is still hard at work improving on the SW, rather than being pulled in multiple directions. Hopefully these new Beosounds will come with a more robust SW / OS at the outset.

Any word on timelines?

Beolab90s have DPL - but only between each speaker. Nothing else has it. WISA has a few drop outs (I'm told. Never tested it). My system does everything it should at the best quality available from B&O today. BS5, Avant,(Oppo105), and the 90s. I'm not going to change everything for a Moment or for Flac file system etc unless there is a tangible benefit in doing so.

So back to topic, in a traditional B&O ecosystem, a new beosound will hopefully exploit the capabilities of the BL90 to the full. To me, that means as a minimum, hard direct digital connections to the BL90 master bypassing TV processing, full range of lossless file support and primary access to stored music rather than Interweb streamed music (secondary).

Of course, the new Beosound may be in a similar vein as the Moment - intended for general use rather than to exploit the full potential of their flagship speakers. It could be that  B&Os vision of the 90s was always to be driven by 3rd party equipment rather than by B&O itself?

I guess we will see over time.

I would also add that for cash, turnover and profitability, I see a 0.01% chance that a new Beosound will be a specialist BL90 matched product. I see it as a general system product.

Drawing from memory, from a leaked picture.

Beosound 1. Will come in two sizes. Idea is that you can have it on your kitchen bench.

Part of multiroom experience. Have its own sources.

Material is aluminum. The top piece house the tweeter pointing downwards.

Launch in August.

I wonder what characteristics would differentiate if a product gets the B&O branding and when it would get the B&O Play?  Would it be a price point or construction material?  B&O Play S8 is essentially a B&O BeoLab 14 2.1 so it's probably not material.

It sort of makes sense as essentially they have the same function and both are NL products, and i think the moment is just about the same price as well : makes sense. :-) Both B&O options will cost you a bit more for installation like Simon says
