Hello all,

I picked up a Beomaster 3000-2 a few months back and I've just got round to giving it the once over. Was pretty grubby but after a good bit of elbow grease has come up nice and clean. A blown fuse was all it needed to get it up and running though it could do with a few new bulbs in the short term.

My question is about the dial cord (which has snapped) and how to replace it. There is no reference to replacing it in the service manual and I can't for the life of me see how I would get a new one actually round all the pulleys and back to the main 'wheel'. I've got the old cord for measuring so that's one box ticked, but if anyone can give any help I'd be most grateful!

Thanks

David

DIal strings can really put your patience to the test.
But there's an easier solution if you don't mind soldering four or five leads:

Hi Martin,

Boy are they! I replaced the dial cord on my Beolit 600 and Beomaster 2000 (Type 2801) the a couple of weeks ago and really needed three hands! Got there in the end though (after a few choice words!).

At least the BM2000 was accessible - this is just awkward Crying - but I'm not easily put off by mechanical things so I'm going to give it a go. I can always take the easy option when I get too frustrated Big Smile

David

P.S. thanks for all the recent belts and bulbs Yes - thumbs up - just need time now to get everything fitted!

And lastly some gratuitous beovirus pics!

Always welcome.
I am sure, I saw a dial string arrangement drawing somewhere and I checked the manual but you're right, it's not in there.
Anyway, it's not an overly complicated path, so I'm sure you'll succeed.
Let me know if you need photos from other angles.

I just replaced my 3000-2 dial string.  I measured the existing string and found a .5mm diameter compatible string at a fishing shop.  I used 50lb (pound) woven fishing line.  Not the clear plastic line.

My service manual showed the string path, although it was a little difficult to see at first because the string follows the path of the mounting bracket.  If you clicked Martin's link to a module, you can see the path.

I used two tweezers to get it around the last pulley.  It's a tight fit, but you can do it.

My dial string spring broke off the spring pin, under the tuning wheel.  I found a small nut and screw and put it in the pin hole and tightened the spring to it.  It works great.

The string is not "tied" to the tuning dial slider.  It lays on top of it.  Then there's a wire wrapped twice around the tuning slider post holding the string down.  It's not enough to keep it from sliding but I used model canopy glue to glue the string and wire to the post.
