Rather than drudge through the myriad of posts regarding the Moment, I'd like to ask a few questions to the Moment owners of this forum regarding the current state of the Beosound Moment (in no particular order of preference or importance):

  • How is the search function now? Has it improved from where it was originally? Do owners still have just one letter searching, or is it more robust now with multiple letters? How fast is it? Does it search across the connected music services (including DLNA), or can it be set up to search on particular sources?
  • What's the overall speed and responsiveness of the Moment today?
  • Has the speed with with the Moment is ready to use from a restart / reset improved? (obviously it is dependent on the number of songs in the connected DLNA library, but I recall initially even with small to moderately sized libraries, it took forever)
  • Are firmware updates still being released at a rapid pace?
  • Would those of you who have had the Moment from release or close to it, would you consider the device mature today than you did in the past? Or is there still some ways to go before it would be considered relatively "complete" for what it does.

Related question:

  • Can the Essence Remote be used to control the Moment? If so, is it via Bluetooth or IR?

Thank you so much in advance for your thoughts.

Search: Still not possible to search in your own content other than with one character. For searching in Deezer content the search function is fine. Search is fast.

Speed and Responsiveness: no problems

Definitely a much more mature product now compared to when it was launced.

Expect to continue to receive upgrades with improvements. There are still some things that I think they can improve.

Yes you can use Essence remote with Moment. Believe it's IR.

I concur with these responses.

I've had mine since release. It's much less 'buggy'. There are still advances to come I think.

NL opens great possibilities

Thanks Hiort!

I'm asking, frankly, because I've seen a handful of Moments pop up on the second hand market here in the States, and I'm tempted to snap one up, but want to be sure of my decision before pulling the trigger.

The Essence remote can do either IR or Bluetooth, but not both at the same time.

Do you know if the "automatic movement detection" will be added during the next update?

It's a feature which is presented in the first BeoSound Moment video.

Thanks.

I really hope that BO does all future speakers so that they could be used with their wi-fi multiroom systems or atleast a wi-fi - bluetooth converter that could Connect their bluetooth speakers with their netlink systems, that should be really nice!

I'd like to see the Moment and Essence using Bluetooth to broadcast to our H8s ... as well as you say A1s A2s etc

Hi Sal,

I can only confirm what Hiort mentioned. One year after the launch and several updates (I still try to mention the new updates in my software update thread) the machine is a lot more stabile and friendlier to integrate in your network as a digital music player. Even the collaboration with Twonky's server runs smoother.

Still, not much has been changed in using the Moment on a daily base. The interaction with Deezer, TuneIn and your own DLNA sources is fast, depending on the quality of your home network, but little or nothing has been bettered on the user friendliness in the daily use of your DLNA material. Searching is still on a premature base with that 'one' character and the Beomusic app is still a pain in the a** to use. The app is not user-friendly at all if you compare to what some other app's offer you this days (iTunes Remote-app - Audirvana+ - JRiver...). Lots of work have to been coming from the R&D team before I write a positive review.

Would I still buy the Moment, yes definitely. This music player integrates very fine in a B&O system and apart from its shortcomings, the sound is very good especially if your DLNA albums are from a higher quality level. But I would have waited a year to buy it and not from its launch as I did, it felt a whole year as I was some kind of beta user.

Technically I think not much can be bettered in future updates on the machine itself, but B&O can be adding improvements to the services they offering. And now I'm thinking at Deezer Elite (others?) and TuneIn without the sometimes annoying commercials coming with some radiostations.

My only recommendation to potential buyers would be. Be sure to have a good coverage wireless network if your planning to walk around with the tablet in your house, loosing the connection between the hub and tablet results mostly in a tablet's paperclip reset to get it fixed again. Don't be scarred to do a factory reset if its real necessary, its now collecting smoothly your DLNA sources in a reasonable timeframe (depending on the volume).

Greetings, Chris

I bought the Moment beginning of 2015 - I guess this was just after the launch. I had serious problems connecting to the network, the system was "hanging" and needed reset. This was a period of problems.

The software is getting better in terms of stability, but in terms of user interface and functions I still wait for improvements. I can not choose my own music (own CD imported in flac) and I can not stream flac music from services like Tidal, Spotify or Deezer - even though Deezer is there, but not Deezer Elite.

So, mine is installed in my kitchen/dining room, where I use this as an background music (with 12-1 speakers)

Lets assume I would use the Moment in the living room as source for the Beolab 5, well, then I need digital output for the Beolab (not on the Moment), I need flac streaming (not on the Moment), I can choose my own music (not on the Moment) - actually the Moment is at the moment not an option for high end music.

B&O, you need to understand, that user with high-end demand for quality (flac streaming and own CD in flac format) wants to buy a new sourcing unit for the Beolab 5 and Beolab 90.

Hi Hiort

Yes, I understand the spec and I have app 500 CDs on a NAS, but how do you know how to select your files from the NAS ?

I can not see my files out of all files, it could also be an MP3 files from Deezer.

Can you choose this yourself ?

You need Twonky as a DLNA server on a computer or directly on you NAS (if that is possible). Setup Moment to connect to your DLNA server.

All your albums will then appear in Moment, sorted under each artist . It will however take a while before Moment have indexed such a large library as yours.

One thing to add that is a bit confusing is that if you have an album that you marked as favorite in Deezer, and you have an album from the same artist on your NAS, you will see two artist tiles in Moment. That is a bad design that I hope B&O will change.

From the Beomusic app you can more easily browse your music that you store on the NAS.

Well, after few hours work, I can conclude that I actually had the Twonky Server running. When I changed from Beosound 5 to Moment, I transferred all files to a NAS. I was advised by my B&O dealer to buy and Iomega IX2-200. I have 454 CD transferred, and this is running Twonky Server.

On the Moment this is added (was also before). My confusing was probably that the userinterface on the Moment is close to hopeless, I the only way (as also describes from you) is the find my CD's from artist view - mixed up with Deezer favourite.

On the Beosound 5 I was used to find my CDs by covers (by picture). This is gone on the Moment. Yes, I can use the app - this is certainly better than the interface on the Moment, but not in samme class as app's like Tidal, Deezer or Spotify

My conclusion is still, that a better userinterface on the Moment is needed to be a top class player. We pray for an major update !

Yes, if you use the Moment "jukebox" you need to look for the artist first, and then under the Artist tile, you can browse the various albums from that artist.

A double tap on the Artist tile give a random play of all songs under that artist.

If you want to find a specific album, the Music App is probably a more convenient tool.
