I have the opportunity to get a good deal on a 55" Avant. I currently have an 85" projector with BeoLab 5s in the front, no center or surround, I would be curious to hear your opinions. I would be losing significant screen real estate (though with the floor stand, the screen would be closer as it's a small room), but gaining full surround sound and integration as I already have a pair of BeoLab 17s to add as rears. Thoughts?

The first version of the Avant will forever be a leftover from before 4k standards was set. It was too early in tech. There is a reason you got "a good deal" on the avant. This is not the TV to purchase at B&O cost. Wait for the soon to be released second edition of the avant.

No more rumors regarding the new Beovisions?

Just to summarize, this is what I found in this thread:

AVANT MKII in June, with panel that support HDR and Deep Color. Android powered. Bluetooth for remote.Optional Netflix button on remote.

Beovision Horizon. A 40" is around 30,000 Swedish (Kr) and the 48" is around 40,000 (kr). Brand new design. Looks like "no TV I have seen before". Harder, more masculine/aggressive design, with more pronounced edges and angles. Matte black aluminium frame. Static (no moving parts) sound bar at the bottom, integrated in the design, with a grey aluminium grille. No glass in front of the panel. 4K and HDR. 40" and 48". The most exciting about this TV is the price, which by B&O standards will be low. Around 3200 and 4000 euro, respectively. Two floor stands: one has wheels. The other resembles the floor stand of the Avant, at least in function, but will be black and look more like a set of circular rails rather than a solid disc. Android powered. Bluetooth for remote.

Beovision 14. Looks in every way like the Beovision 11, but with new technology. 4K and HDR. Sizes like BV11. 40", 46" and 55".4Android powered. Bluetooth for remote. Wooden fret alternative (?). Price level like the AVANT. Optional Netflix button on remote.

The main driving force here is price as it be over half off retail. Not sure I'm ready to pay full price so waiting for the new one is not really an option. After knowing that, you still advise against the original avant?

I have the very first Avant 55 ordered launch week. Extremely happy with it. There will always be newer mumbo jumbo, but that doesn't bother me. If the price is right for you, just do it.

I am pretty sure, that you will benefit from the possibilities of that new combo.

On the other hand I am not so sure, that you would - for quite some time to come - benefit much from waiting for an upgraded Avant...

...considering the differences in the costs.

An original Avant for over half the cost new is a good deal and I would do it. Picture and sound performance is stunning with all the B&O magic included. It is still a 4K set and a pretty good one at that. Yes, performance will be 'different' in the upcoming models but 'better' is a word I would use reservedly given that I think for the average home/family user these difference are not actually all that important. Go for it and enjoy it.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Just do it. It sounds like an absolute bargain (in B&O world) for what you are getting.

I own the an Avant 55" and it is great. It is more then just a tv screen, it's a media hub for your home.
And I also own the BL5s so I can say that they will be perfect for your surround setup. (No sub needed).

But if you have the opportunity, wait for the MKII version that will released in august (most likely) because it will be worth waiting for.

I would not change for a smaller screen.

I you do, you will be moving your sofa closer to the TV ;-))

Once used to a bigger screen size it is hard to go back.

That's always been my experience. At first it's "OMG, that's huge, it's almost too big!" Quickly to be replaced by the feeling of "OMG, how in the world did I ever live with such a tiny screen before!"

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

A tv is instant on - no hassle.

With a movie theater you (mostly) have to be patient.

The movie theater is great for watching movies, but not for 'everyday-use' = mix of tv programs, movies, music listening etc.

Personally, if I had to choose one over the other, I'd go for the Avant - even if is smaller.

I am sure the choice will depend on viewing (and listening) preferences.

Lucky he/she who can have both :-)

I've seen a fair number of setups where both a projector and a smaller TV are used. Mainly because watching normal commercial TV on a huge screen can be almost painful. The shows and especially the ads are designed for maximum impact on a small, average Joe's TV and can be almost unbearable to watch on a huge screen. Imagine an eight foot wide tube of hemorrhoid cream...shudder.
