I hope this link will help you.
Any Beogram is now likely to need a very expensive cartridge as well as servicing.
If you want to see whether your children are really interested in turntables why not look at the very large turntable ranges at John Lewis or Richer Sounds?
Most of these turntables, regardless of price, are manual, and need your intervention at the start and finish of play. Some of the more expensive Sony turntables allegedly have £10 cartridges. Good for replacement but good for sound????
If, however, you personally want the magic of B&O, think about circa £500 for a good tangential with cartridge: even a classic BG 1203 with good SP14 is going to set you back a bit, and most cartridges, even if 'new' condition will now be useless due to suspensions drying out etc.

The module / unit which contains the diamond tip / stylus. Soundsmith, here in the States sells quality cartridges for B&O turntables.
If you want the amplifier look for a Beocenter as most Beograms needs the RIAA between the amp and the Beogram.
Cartridge is a pickup or the needle which can be costly. If its the needle that is broken you can have it retipped in Germany
You don't like the Acoustical 3000? Sounds wonderful!
If I were looking for a record player to go with a Beosound, I would get the Beogram 6000 - the most beautiful deck with a built in RIAA.
