I Malcolm, just an HMDI lead should be perfect! I know that there can be a HUGE debate over cables, put i'm a HUGE fan of QED!

Please report back on your experience with the Apple TV box. What a superb purchase and what a stylish, timeless piece of art your television is!

Excellent Malcolm! A good lead should last a lifetime and remember it's a 6.5K upwards piece of art so I guess £30 isn't too bad :)  But yes a top quality QED is around that price! I was streaming a HD music app VEVO from my iPhone 4s to a friend's Apple TV the other evening and WOW what amazing quality!!!!!!!!!! I LOVED IT!

I like the Apple cable because it is thinner than more expensive ones.

So I have two Apple HDMIs, a Belkin HDMI that is thicker, and an expensive rush emergency purchase that has a braided sleeve.

I see no difference between the various images presented by these various cables - so for me ease of running the cabe is the discerning characteristic

I used to buy QED Cables - now I buy from Steve @ Sounds Heavenly, really not necessary to buy QED cables and spend all the extra unless you like the colours of the cable sleeves IMHO.

Hello Malcolm all you need to connect your apple tv to your bv10 is 1 hdmi lead. Then you wirelessly stream from your iPad or I phone to you apple tv. I'm assuming the cable you mean which is £30 from apple is the av cable which goes from the I pad direct into your bv10. You will not need this, this would be used if you didn't have apple tv but you would then be restricted by the cable length.

Ps. You need wifi to connect to your apple tv.

Hope this helps

sadly it now feels like ancient history even though it was only 7-ish weeks ago

sorry I missed the "composite" part of your original question !

so this begs the question of which Apple TV you are buying ?

there are two basic types:

So which you choose will depend on which connectors you have free on your BV10; but I would recommend the latter/later style.

Then you can connect wirelessly your iPad to the ATV and broadcast the music and videos from your iPad; or use the remote to command the ATV to access the internet for content.

If you add a PUC to the ATV (I sticky tape mine to the front of the black puck) you then can control the ATV via a Beo4 rather than the silver Apple remote that comes with that series of ATVs.

strictly speaking you can attach an ethernet cable to the ATV and wire it to a router - or use wifi.

it is the iPad that needs wifi to connect to the ATV and its router.

I think Malcolm has been thinking of directly connecting his iPad to the BV10 using AV cables, which is not strictly necessary

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad_accessories

here is part of my set-up to illustrate ... shows black hockey-puck ATV (g2), the ATV's menu on our BV8-32 (white) and the three cables needed - from top to bottom: power, PUC, HDMI

There's also a way of controlling your apple tv direct with the beo4 or any remote you like without the need for a ir blaster. You will have to program it though. I haven't tried this but it seems fairly straight forward. Here's the link

That doesn't work, because ATV can't receive the IR codes of Beo 4!

I notice that the Apple HDMI lead is £15 on the Appe site - Extremely good value.

You can of curse control your Apple TV with either the iPhone or iPad app. Very Very nice app that is incredibly easy to use!

The ATV is able to learn the commands from other remotes than the original Apple remote. But this doesn't work with B&O remotes, neither Beo 4 nor Beo 5/6. But the Beo 5/6 can be programmed with the original Apple TV codes.

So the PUC solution is in my eyes the best and easiest solution to control an ATV with a Beo 4/5/6.
