hello recently purchased m75’s the dampening material has a terrible smell and is scattered about loosely.can l use a synthetic or wool insulation to renew & how do l repack the speakers?do l need to be worried regarding burning on crossovers etc.thank you for any help given
Congrats on your purchase, they are very nice speakers!
The bad smell is mostly because of the dampening material touching the crossover circuit. When speakers are beaten a little, the resistors will get hot and burn the material if touching so no need to change it.
However you should pay attention to cracked resistors. If the they were running repeatedly hot, they might have developed cracks and they will eventually fail. I think crossover refresh will bring your speakers a new life.
Thanks for your advise,But l think it is more of a musty smell and it’s rather offensive.there appeared to be no burnt material present.how does one repack a speaker,do you fill the whole cavity ?.it was all loosely scattered around when opened up.
