I'm so impressed with the Beovision 5 Mk 1 that I've been looking around for an HD ready model. I've seen a Mk 3 locally and wandered how much of an increase in picture quality I'd really notice.

I'm playing Sky box through it(HD mode)

Thanks in advanceYes - thumbs up

Get one

When either mine gives out or I find the connectivity to be a problem for peripherals and STBs, I may well remove all the innards and instal a new 4K panel linked to a cinema sound system housed in the base behind the speaker panel.

However, you really have to have the right room location because that big TV case is going to look more and more dated as TV panels get thinner and bigger.

Even the Mk1 picture is more than acceptable, so I'll hopefully keep hold of ours for years. Still the best sound after the original AvantYes - thumbs up

Absolutely!

At normal viewing distances the screen resolution is first class. From recollection the TV is an Avant in a new case with plasma replacing the CRT.

Circa £13500 when new, but that was at a time that the Panasonic plasma was also about £6500, so you paid double for the better design and supreior sound system.

Quite correct Graham. It's an Avant chassis with a Panasonic D5 to a D7 panel on top, with what resembles half way between a pair of BeoLab 2500's and 4000's down below. I'm sure it's one or the other but I've never measured the drivers.

Reliability of the panel, the speakers and the chassis is rock-solid - and I mean 1988 Volvo 240DL Estate rock-solid.  I wish all TV's were this reliable.

Yes, they sadly do look a bit dated now - but like the blocky, chunky Volvo 2-Series they have a certain charm. Smile
