Dear members,
I've just received my first pair of Beovox C75s and tried cleaning them with foam cleaner. It generally pretty mild and doesn't contain any alcohol or the like. However, the dull aluminum case is now shiny in spots where there was more of the foam cleaner. So it seems that there is some sort of coating on the cases of these speakers that has reacted with some of the ingrediants in the foam cleaner. I've encountered something similar with a Beogram 7000 platter that I've tried cleaning with alcohol some time ago. Ok, that was clearly my fault. But foam cleaner on the aluminum cases of the Beovoxes leaves me kind of puzzled. Does anybody have an explanation for what happened?
Greetings,
Kai
Or is it pure aluminum and it's just a layer of oxide that came off...
Any ideas?
The CX alu speaker cabinets have a surface coating, that makes them not feel cold to the touch and protects thealuminium from finger-acid etc.If you wash it off, it's gone. You should only clean the speakers as mentioned in the user manual. No alcohol.
Same goes for the Beogram platters. They have a similar coating which also performs an antistatic function. My recommendation is that you never clean platters with anything else but a soft cloth.(A search in the forum would bring up a quite heatet discussion we had about this a couple of years ago, whereone or two Beogram owners found out they could clean and polish their platters to a mirror-like shine (some people like shiny things),but the antistatic coating is gone forever if you clean it off - and the Beograms weren't designed or intended to look any other way).

Thanks Martin,
there was no alcohol contained. It was TFT cleaner. But apparently it reacted with the coating. Sad.
To ground the record to the platter.
thats where the static builds up when rotating.

What I'm really worried about is that TFT foam cleaner without any alcohol was able to do this. I always thought that TFT foam cleaner is as mild as it gets. Apparently not this one in combination with the C75s...
The coating on the platters cant even handle a mild soap.
